    5.0 with steering problem

For a long time my car was kind of drifty and didn't have a real tight feel. I just had the lower control arm bushings replaced and what a difference. 130k had taken it's toll and some of my bushings were pretty loose, the new ones really improved the way the car handles. Just another thing...

    466ci Ford Crate Motor

Go rent yourself a Civic to drive for a few days, then go back to the mustang. Let us know how sluggish it feels. :rlaugh:

    Im so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be aware that if you have the block "hot tanked" you'll need to replace the cam bearings. Unless you happen to have the tool required to do this, have the machine shop do it.

    650 or 750?

A old trick to see if your carb is large enough is if your engine pulls any vaccum through an intake port at WOT. In theory, with the throttle blades wide open there should be no vaccum in your intake manifold...if there is your carb is a restriction. -By intake port I mean vaccum port...

    whoo knows alot about carbs??

Are you sure you don't have the stock carb? 1985 GT's came with a Holley 4bbl stock, although they had vaccum secondaries and plugs over the idle mixture adjustment screws. I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, just not sure how familar you are with carbs.

    Wix oil filter users

A wix filter for your car should have an anti-drainback valve, I would expect you would get similar results.

    remanufactured carburator

Can you be a bit more specific? I have used Holley, Edelbrock, and Carter carbs with much success. A low-end Edelbrock is almost a total clone of a Carter AFB anyways. All of the above will run excellent if tuned correctly; although I personally prefer tuning a Holley-style carb. Both the...

302 block mounting on stand what size bolts?

I believe they're 1/2" When I got mine back from the machine shop I didn't have any bolts the right size, I ended up using some of the old head bolts w/ washers just to get by for a day or two.

Bulding an engine from the block

Are you reusing most of the external stuff from your existing engine? Such as the heads, intake, timing & valve covers, distributor, oil pan, etc? If so, all you need to do is come up with a rotating assembly (crank, bearings, rods, pistons, pins & rings), cam w/ bearings, and finally all of...

Sympthoms of bad rings vs. bad valve seals

A typical symptom of bad valve seals/guides is you will notice oil/deposits built up on the side of the spark plug facing the intake valve. With worn rings, usually the entire tip of the plug will have oil/deposits on it. When you have worn compression rings part of the air/fuel mixture...

running hot, ****ty gauges, running like poo.

Good call, I completely forgot to mention that. Musclecarfan88, if you're running a mechanical fuel pump you would see it mounted on the side of your timing cover. Simply follow the fuel line from your carb and see where it goes. If you have headers on your car check and see if the fuel lines...

Rough when cold, no start when hot

You would have to rig something up to measure the voltage/resistance through the sensor at the different temperatures it is designed to measure. I don't know exactly how to do it, if you want to test your "spare" someone else may be able to post instructions to test it.

running hot, ****ty gauges, running like poo.

What are you using for a fuel pump? I've seen faulty mechanical fuel pumps cause symptoms similar to what you're experiencing. It sounds to me like more of a fuel problem than anything else; although since you say it ran better when it cooled off it would be wise to try replacing the cooling...

Rough when cold, no start when hot

If your ECT (engine coolant temparature sensor) is bad, you will have hot starting problems as well. I went through the same thing on an '88 Grand Marquis. Ran rough when cold, wouldn't start for 5-10 minutes when hot. I replaced the ECT and it has run fine ever sense.

    Pete Jackson Gear Drives

I've only seen one installed on a small block chevy. The advantages include increased life, and your cam's timing won't be thrown off over time due to the timing chain stretching. Disadvantages: LOUD. Even the "quiet" models are far louder than a chain. (Although I personally like that...

Blown Head Gasket Fixed, Engine is All Screwed Up Now

Poor idle + unresponsive brakes usually = vaccum leak Better check your vaccum lines again.

    HELP!!! NO LIGHTS!!!!!

I can almost guarantee it is your headlight switch; mustangs are famous for having them fail. My car did the exact same thing as yours, the headlight switch was shorted out in the back. I replaced it with a Ford OEM unit and it has worked fine ever since.

Where did you install your inline fuel pumps? And carb ?

Did the flathead screw have a hex nut just below it? If so, you just changed your carb's needle/seat adjustment; and thereby changed the level of fuel in the front bowl. Your reference to "fuel jets from the rear barrels only" seems to indicate that something is messed up with your...

Engine still ticking, me still banging my head.

Mechanical Fuel pumps can certainly make a loud ticking noise when they get old; I've seen people replace their entire valve train trying to eliminate a tick caused by the fuel pump. Edit: just noticed your running EFI, guess this doesn't help you much.
