    A 2900 lb '40 is pretty light. My 1930 Model A pickup with 'glass fenders, a 289 /4 spd, 8 inch rear weight 2860 according to the local truck scales. But yeah, the driver plays a big part of all MPG arguments. I get 13 mpg or so with my F250, my wife gets 10 mpg driving the same truck.

    5.0 L and a 1967 C4 tranny match up

    Everything bolts up, you need a flexplate that's compatible with the later 5.0 and that's it. The newer 5.0's had a 50 oz imbalance where the older 289/302 motors had a 28 oz imbalance. Other than that, it's all the same, including the starters.

    Sounds a lot like a bad coil or condenser (assuming it's a points ignition). Typically , in my experience, if a car runs fine when cold, but poorly when it's warmed up, the coil is breaking down, or the condenser is dying.     That's a beautiful car, I love the stripes myself. Without seeing the actual car itself I'd say $30-$35K without too much drama.     Timing Chain Alignment

    Play it safe, rotate the engine to TDC. There's 1 dot each on the cam gear and crank gear of the timing set. Align those, make sure the rotor on the distributor is pointed towards the number one terminal on the cap. Then unbolt the old timing set, replace it with the new and you're good to go.
