    Close Call...

Now you're reminding me of high school. I was a very fortunate 16 year old, my first car was a 70 mach1 351c 4v 4spd.... you can imagine the interest of local law enforcement. My sister worked at the local "pop in fresh" which later turned into Bakers Square..... well, that's where the local...

I need help with project direction

Well, I lived through the pro street era, I don't think I'll go that direction, if it's going back on the street, I do want it streetable, with an overdrive, nice stereo, etc. I like the idea of a nostalgia drag car remake, any suggestions on a car to model it after? Was there a blue max...

Interesting stash of classic cars / parts in Vermont

Wow That makes me feel a whole lot better about the old econoline sitting behind my pole barn full of parts, not to mention the half dozen engines and rear ends I have laying around. My GAWD man! I can't imagine taking that on in any way but a full time retirement, with the land and...

    Need Tire Help

tires Well, keeping the white walls certainly restricts you these days. We have a '54 belair sedan that I wanted a fresh set of radials for, and also wanted to retain the white walls, but not spend the $$$ necessary to get custom "wide whites" so, I went to my local discount tire store, and...

decision of AMP for sound system

I've never stumped the tech folks at crutchfield, I would go there for any stereo needs, set up, which components, even mixing with components you already have. I've always had a great experience with them, and several times they have things on sale that are not in the catalogue. Give them a ring.

    Smoke and Carbon

If a car sits a while, like winter storage, there will be a good bit of condensation in the exhaust and the typical rich start up required to start cold with the choke on. All old cars I know of will leave black marks where the tail pipes exit on the floor or wall from initial cold start or...

Rear Main Seal - changing it w/ engine in car - Advice Please?!?

Plymouth Michigan! You're just up the road from me! Too bad I'm going out of town tomorrow for 10 days, or we could put it up on my lift and have a look see. I know I've had the pan off a 351w 69 cougar many times, the crossmember under the pan unbolts so you can drop the pan, I don't...

    what color?

color is a real personal decision, about like boxers or briefs. Especially if you're going to do all the body and paint work yourself, you really need to love the color it will be after all that hard work and hours of sanding. In general as already stated, white's the easiest and cheapest...

    Proper Oil PSI

My buddies 69 cougar ran more like 7psi at a hot idle for years before we rebuilt the engine, and there was no bearing damage, but there was normal bearing wear, and some scratches inside the oil pump. I can't recall exactly, but I think there is a ford spec in my old manuals with a min oil...

HELP! 418W problem during initial start-up

I just ran across a wierd problem that kept me thinking it was a carburetor, but it turned out to be the distributor advance mechanism. Get the engine warm and put your timing light on it, slowly accelerate the engine while looking at the balancer, the advance should be smooth and the timing...

70 Mach I fuel line question

I'm betting this has to be some early emissions stuff that was california only, I bet it's for evaporative emissions, charcoal canister, etc, which means that second line was a "vapor" line, not a return line.

    front wiring harness

69 had four headlights, 70 only two, I think that's the major difference on the front harness. Does anyone know if there's a kit available to add the wiring harness for a cobrajet hood scoop with the turnsignals in it? I have a feeling whenever I go to put my 69fb back on the street, I'm...
