    Clutch, or trans smoking

That's ridiculous. My mechanic has never gone by the book. He knows how long it takes him to do his work, and he charges accordingly. He charges $200 straight labor for R&R of a T5. If putting in a TOB, no charge. If putting in a clutch, he charges an extra $50. He only charges $30 labor for a...

    severe lack of power

My first guess would be the typical MAF along with it's brothers and sisters, sensor-wise... But have you considered fuel filter? I know you said no loss in gas mileage, but that's a cheap fix if it's the culprit.

    Clutch, or trans smoking

I've had a throwout bearing replaced by a shop before. It was there for exhaust work and the TOB was going anyway, so I paid to have it done. It was $200 from the local speed shop - out the door. That's just for labor, though. Figure in an extra $30 or $50 for the part.

    Clutch, or trans smoking

That sound you're hearing is the throwout bearing. The smoking? I'm not sure... How much is it, and when does that occur? I've had a throwout bearing disintegrate on me - when I pulled away the bellhousing the next day ball bearings fell all over my face. The bearing was in 3 or 4 different...

    Miles per gallon

I pulled 23 mpg's out of my GTS on a 175 mile trip a few weeks back. I was cruising at no less than 80, but normally 85-90, for 150 miles of the trip. On the way home, I didn't record the mileage, as my throttle usage was a bit excessive. Let's just say I trimmed a '2 hour and 45 minute' drive...

    Exhaust and smog questions

My EGR is all still intact, and plugged in, and leaves no CEL. Just yank out the smog stuff, block off the holes in, IIRC, the head with threaded plugs, either run a shortbelt (89.5"??) or use the eliminator bracket/pulley (what I've used in my car) to retain the stock belt length.

    Exhaust and smog questions

Removing the smog stuff isn't that bad, although I ended up having a shop owner take care of it while he had my car in for subframes. The pump was going bad, so he said if I threw him $40 he'd yank it out. It doesn't leave any CEL.

    Some questions to Vortech owners

Was waiting on you to find this thread! :nice: Trapping 120+ would DEFINITELY be nice... After doing some more local research, I'm definitely going GT40 heads/intake, and probably an E cam - possibly custom grind depending on finances... The guy who ports heads I was talking about has hit the...

    clutch chatter

Giving more gas and making your footwork a bit quicker will 'eliminate' the chatter. A lot of clutches are just flat out GOING to chatter, and all you can do is get used to it. Mine chatters, and has for the past couple thousand miles it's been in there. Now, I've learned how to release the...

Is it normal for the timing hash marks to move?

If I'm understanding your post correctly, yes that's normal. The balancer (where the timing marks are on) moves WITH the crank, so as you're turning over and turning over, you're moving the timing marks. You have to set it at top dead center to begin resetting it. :nice: You're balancer should...

What if mustang didn't exist? What would you buy?

Well, assuming the butterfly effect takes hold and f-bodies aren't around, I'd be in an Evo. In a world with f-bodies, however, I'd be driving a WS6 Trans Am, hands-down. Love those cars to death, however I love my Mustang, sometimes more than I do the lady friend. Having a Mustang is an...

What Brand Tire Is Everyone Running?

I hate the Sumi's on my car. They're like HTR+ or something. The first week I had them, they were AWESOME. Cut 1.9 short times consistently on them at the track. Now.... After a week, and maybe 5 passes with no burnouts, just a bit of wheelspin, I was back to spinning through first on my bone...

    Some questions to Vortech owners

Thanks for the quick reply, glad to hear that 400 could be attainable. TBH, I kind of want the GT40 setup preferably, because it's A LOT cheaper. There's a guy around here who does bang up port work for Fords, and I can pick up the heads + port work for $500 or a bit less, whereas AFR's or...

    Some questions to Vortech owners

Hey guys, I'm going to be getting my car up to my wanted power level pretty soon. I've never been a 'piece by piece' kinda guy, and I want to plan everything before I buy, so I don't have to buy things twice. I have a few questions and concerns. I want to keep the shortblock stock, I'm just...

    draining oil question

Yeah, I remember my first oil change. Didn't know about the dual sumps, and drained the front sump and flipped out wondering how my car even drove me to my friend's house. :rlaugh: Then I looked and did the old 'OHHHH' after seeing the rear sump. :nice:

    MAF sensor. CRAZY S***

When I bought my car, the MAF filaments were BLACK. I drove the car, and it couldn't spin the tires if it's life depended on it. Would hit an absolute brick wall after 3k rpms, and was absolutely terrible. A little carb cleaner and q-tip action, and those 225 wides were spinning the rest of the...

    draining oil question

Assuming this is an SN95 5.0, yes, you drain BOTH plugs. The front sump never has a whole lot of oil in it when I change mine, the rear sump is where it all seems to pool up. I usually unplug the front, let it drain for a few, put the drain plug back in, then move to the rear and repeat. Then...

    SVE Mongoose clutch review!

I had the King Cobra in my car before this one and I reallllly prefer the Mongoose. Engagement is much more precise IMO, and the pedal is lighter than the Valeo KC I had in there before (I'm running a MM cable/Steeda quad). Haven't taken it to the track yet, as I have no reason to since I have...

time to say goodbye to the fox I think

Glad you're happy with the sale! If it would have been a coupe, my ass would have driven to you to pick it up! :rlaugh: Looks to be a real clean Fox! Hope the new owner treats her well. :nice:
