Just Went to the Track - Gears are Great!

Yeah it's another one of those "I just went to the track." threads but I figured I'd share my results for anyone who cares. I was out at Mission tonight with my dad and a friend. Since I had been there last I have added 3:73s, FRPP Shorty Headers and rebuilt my Trac-Lok. I have street tires, I...

Where did the name "Fox" come from

Where the hell did that come from? When I read the original post there were no responses. I'm just trying to answer the guy's question and unfortunately, I got one thing wrong so I stand corrected. Why don't you post something helpful instead of calling names, bud?

Where did the name "Fox" come from

Ford's Fox platform or chassis was originally used on Fairmonts in 1978 I believe. Fox Body Mustang just refers to a Mustang that uses the fox unibody chassis. I believe it was based off of the VW fox platform, hence it's name. The chassis was used for many other cars, not just the Mustang. I...

    Cobra MAF

Hey, you are absolutely right. Thanks Jason.

    Cobra MAF

Well, thanks for the answer (sorry to jack the thread). That's kind of crappy though, since I have the tube with the wrong MAS attached. It's going to be a pain to find the correct one. I don't think so, but can the MAS be bought separate from the tube from Ford. I know 92-95 SC T-Birds used...

    Cobra MAF

I have a question about MAFs as well and I can't seem to a get an answer. I have a Cobra MAF waiting to go in the car eventually, and I want to know exactly what I need. As I see it, there are 4 parts to the MAF swap: 1)Cobra EEC-IV 2)24 lb/hr Injectors 3)70 mm Tube 4)?? Air Meter When I...

maybe a dumb ? but how do you do this.

Just buy some bags of ice and keep them in a cooler like you said. Maybe put a hand towel between the intake and the plastic bag to keep it from melting. The towel/ice/water should take away some of the heat.

    S197 wheels on a Fox

Okay, that makes sense for the tires. The price is exactly why I was considering 05+ wheels, but the offset issue scared me off, especially since I had already purchased 94-95 spindles. I wanted to go with the option wheel though, not the new Bullitts, the spokes are not set in far enough and I...

    1.70 vs 1.72 Roller Rockers

If you take a look at Ford's two GT40 crate engines (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=7368) they use a B and an E cam with GT40x cylinder heads. They list part number M-6564-B351 for the RRs that they use in either version of the engine...

    S197 wheels on a Fox

Interesting info. I was originally looking into 05+ wheels as a cheap alternative for my 5-lug but ended up going with 04 Bullitts. Why not the smaller S197 tires? I would assume that they used 96+ spindles since I have seen S197 wheels on a 99-04 car and they were set WAY into the wells. I...

Missing, fuel in exhaust, code 11

I would run the KOER test as soon as possible. My code reader said to check the timing yada yada, so I did with a light, but to be honest with you, besides being able to read what the timing was at, I had no idea what I was checking for, so I ran the test anyway. Good luck!

Is there a difference in the 87 and 88+?

1993 was the first year for hypereutectic pistons in the Mustang.

    Do I have gears?

Raise up the rear of the car and mark a line along the driveshaft. Spin the tire one whole revolution and either look under or have a buddy watch to see how many times the mark on the driveshaft goes around. If it's just short of 4, 3.73s, if it's 3 and a half 3.55s, if it's 3, 3.08s etc.

Old school tri-bars on a fox, want to see it?

Not liking that one. What I never understood was why Ford put 5 bars on the old '79s instead of 3 like this:

What to pay for a 5.0?!?! IN CANADIAN!?!?

Out here around Vancouver a lot of guys ask $5000-$7000 with 150k-180k kms and light mods (pullies, CAI, exhaust, etc.). This is just my experience from browsing. Depending on the condition and what you want, 5-8g is alright I'm thinking. I would pay less for a car that has the engine...

Thanks for the Photoshop guys..here's the real thing.

Wheels look great! Go with the Cobra wing and paint the drums black for sure, or at least a dark grey or something so that the black spokes are still outlined but don't cause the drums to pop out.

    What style MAF is this?

Looks like a 94-95 70 mm MAF with some sort of recalibrated/rebuilt sensor on top. Looks like the center joint has been cut out as well. Just my guess. "128579" is the Ford number for the Mass air metering tube and sensor assembly FWIW.
