    It will be interesting to see if this works out because the Ford Racing Parts book states Attempts should not be made to use them behind a Mustang V8 engine, so I took that as gospel.

    The 4 cylinder Turbo T-5 won't work behind V8 engines due to the input shaft diameter and length and also the bearing retainer.

    After you set the ignition timing and tighten down the retaining bolt, is the distributor fully seated and can you rotate the distributor at all? Does the engine have a steel roller cam or cast iron flat tappet? Do you know if your distributor has a steel gear or a cast iron one to be compatible...

    Summit sells a large selection for the C4 / C-4 using either the 157 or 164 tooth flexplate with 50-Oz external balance depending on which bellhousing your transmission has.

    The Dark Blue was for 1964-1/2 and 1965. 1966 got the Ford Blue. I have a 1965, so that's why I still have a new Ford Blue carpet still in the box I'll never use.

    It uses heavier 3/8" rod bolts vice 5/16". There were 2 flex plates made for the HiPo. Part Number C4OZ-6375-C (which may have a dab of orange paint on it) and C4OZ-6375-E (which has a C7ZP-A stamping on it).

    A true HiPo 289 requires a special 30.4 Oz flex plate or flywheel. They also had 2 weights up front, a 24.5 Oz balancer and a 5.9 Oz counterweight which equals 30.4 Oz.

    It's not unusual for the aluminum front covers to be eaten away from the inside by the acids that build up when regular cooling system maintenance is neglected over the course of 50 years. Luckily you can now buy replacements by Scott Drake, California Pony Cras, and Dorman.
