    Tried to rename this thread, but it won't show up in the forum as such. Anyway, my new question is, can I remove and re-install the axel bearings in the uprights without a press? Perhaps a ball joint type tool could work (especially with an impact..?)?

    Sounds strange, I know. But it's for a swap, into my 88 thunderbird. I already have 98 gt brakes and the IRS I'm looking at comes with no brakes. The guy selling it seems to think they won't bolt up, but if they are interchangeable on the solid axel, why not the IRS? thanks

I was about to pull the other one to take to the hardware store but remembered that the 5.0 + T5 was a tight fit in the 'bird (as far as getting the trans/x-mem in place)...

    They are on the inside of the arms. How can you possibly get a torque wrench in there? I can easily get to the bolts on the outside but I don't think that'd be as accurate...

    I actually had to drill the entire center out!! I stepped up to progressively larger bits until the entire thing busted out. Then I could push the pin slide it out! Thanks
