Wider Tires = LESS Traction ??

As has been repeatedly mentioned all ready - and you figured out yourself. "Summer" hi performance tires have the same grip as ice below 40 degrees and are dangerous. Also a bald tire has 100% surface contact and zero tread squirm. Also remember with a lower profile/ wider tire you have...

Easy fix for my 84LX front seats lean.

After much head scratching over a couple weeks and the removal of the seat and complete disassembly I came to realize the only thing aparently broken or missing was the nylon bushings on the inside shoulder bolt of both seats. Thus the snap I heard when I leaned back in my seat when it broke...

    Rear Axle Question

I've found that even with FM a posi will chatter on the first couple of sharp turns after going a good distance in a straight line on a freeway. It's the nature of the beast.

AOD trouble, not shifting to overdrive

He's exactly right. OD is dead. My wife's 87 with under 80k miles just up and died on her one day. The thing worked perfectly in D but OD was a gonner. Personally I would have driven it without OD but she insisted on a rebuilt trans. Oh well...it was her car. If you don't go on alot of...

    radiator ?

I put an Advance Auto $95 "normal" aluminum with plastic end pieces just like the "modern" ones and a new cap in my 84 , 5.0 with AOD. All my cooling issues immediately went away. The car NEVER gets above 1/2 with AC on in FL at 90F and while on the road many times doesn't get above 1/3. Yes...

    2:73 = Bad Gas Mileage???

My 92 with 2.73 rearend and AOD that kicks in at 35mph gets avg of 26 at 73mph on cruise. High of 30mpg and low of 23 depending on hills. 1900rpm My 84 with 3.27 rearend and AOD that kicks in at 45mph gets avg of 20mpg at 70mph on cruise. High of 23mpg. 2000rpm My 96 5.0 explorer used to...

How to open a coupe trunk with a broken lock

If you take your car to the locksmith with your new locks it won't cost anymore than replacing them all...included normally. I would assume no more than $10 each lock installed including the ignition. So you end up killing two birds. All new keyed alike locks including the glovebox.

    Seatbelt action

Agreed he is correct. Old Mustangs are swingers. Explorers are premature dejaculators. If you go down a steep enough hill the pendulum might engage?

timeings perfect Has a lug at idle

Cams don't "go away" after awhile. You could even have the distributor off a tooth and think you have the timing perfect. Besides if you really had a "radical cam" you should have altered your timing to correspond with the duration/lift and benefit from it. You probably have a code in...

    white smoke from pipes

Yes. Normally that would be a blown head gasket. It doesn't go away once it starts until all the coolant is gone and the head gets warped. Then you're screwed.

    AUTO,yes im thinking auto!

You can't drink your coffee/soda and shift gears on your way to anywhere. There is no MPG benefit with a stick anymore and clutches cost $500 every 50k or so while the slushbox should last 100k+ easy. 5% of cars sold are stick. That is your available market when you go to sell it. A...

    AOD Trans Acting Up - 1987 5.0

I can only tell you that when my OD gear died abruptly on my 87 they wanted a fortune like $2000 at the dealer to fix it. Even tho' the other 3 main gears plus reverse worked fine. Since it was a nice clean car I had a friend install a used guaranteed tranny with low miles from the boneyard...

Performance injector on a stock block 302? Any Advantage?

I have no idea what the capacity of the two stock injectors on my 84 CFI contolled (86) engine is? Only that there is 39psi available off the regulator. I know they have plenty of capacity to power the 178RWHP (calculated) 86 stock engine (AOD) with the two inline stock fuel pumps and...

    5.0 Swap into 90s Miata

Years ago Mazdatrix or Racingbeat made a kit to do this. Guess it handled decent and was very fast but the suspension was a major cost item. Somehow I doubt it's still available with the quick turbo and supercharger systems out there now. I don't think you could do it for under $3k and...

    NEW ENIGIE HELP

You said you can't get it to run "right". Guess that means it is actually running? I assume you got the timing chain on right and it sounds like you are using a distributor (off 180degrees)? Is the firing order the same for that engine as a normal 5.0? Not familiar with that cam either...

New Cheap Radiator solves ALL cooling issues.

Well it does come with a ltd. lifetime warrantee. (No labor other than mine.) I get those now that I'm old = lifetime warrantees on most things. I'm in Central FL so cooling is my only issue. I'm happy with 225HP forever as long as it stays mechanically reliable and the top goes up/down by...

New Cheap Radiator solves ALL cooling issues.

I finally broke down and actually bought the Advance Auto "ReadyRad" from Mexico PN 433556 for $95 plus a gallon of good antifreeze. I have the 84 LX conv, rebuilt '86 5.0 with AOD, CFI and AC. This radiator is for the 4bbl but fit pretty good. Weighs nothing compared to the old metal...
