    Starter Problem

    Could be a defective starter, even a rebuilt can have problems. Either that or the starters nose cone is wrong for your car and is not letting the gear get close enough to engage the flywheel correctly.

    I believe the engine code on your vin should read "S" which would indicate a 390 engine was installed at time of mfg. Whether or not the engine in the car is the original, there is a way to tell, but I'm not quite sure how.

    How to get it running

    remove each spark plug and squirt motor oil in the cylinders to help the piston rings slide. They got to be cruddy sitting for so long. Also, put a new fuel filter on.

    Now that I think about it, even if it was the wrong cam, the plug wire was still on the wrong cylinder and terminal. .Most likely they put the dist in wrong, and corrected it by jumping terminals. I will get her back together and see how she runs, hopefully wont have to go any further...
