PROBLEMS after cam swap, please help!!!

Hmm, usually the drill hole works ... especially when everything else is in correct order. Sometimes it takes a little for the computer to learn the new cam and log acceptable parameters for it. I just went back and read your original post ... because the car runs "strong" up off...

    what heads do you like?

And .... made in the USA :flag: A friend has the RPM 2.02's and he has more problems with the rev limiter than vt mass. The car spins up easy with those heads on it ... for an $1100 head they are an awesome value IMO.

    Rear-end removel

First step is to not move around the thing like a programmed android, but use your head and think your way through each step :nice: ~Put the cars frame on jackstands and then put the tranny in neutral with the e-brake off once in the air. ~Disconnect the 4 driveline bolts and slide the...

... Or take it off, diassembly it, clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner and a toothbrush ... and then put it all back together. Works 9 out of 10 times. :nice:

    Weird timing problem

Switched injector ... oh yes ... Our engines are sequential electronic fuel injection: This means the injector is supposed to spray at the right time, or "sequence". Try this link to see the firing order and cylinder numbering to make sure the wires on the cap are in the correct order and...

    3.55 or 3.73's?

"Just wondering what gear to go with I have a few bolt on's nothing major and the car is a daily driver." 4.10's are made for a car with a different power curve than a stock headed and cammed car. An unbalanced and stock valvetrain engine is not a spinner.

    Weird timing problem

The camshaft and the crankshaft are tied together with a chain (like a bicycle). The bigger sprocket is attached to the front of the cam and the smaller one is attached to the front of the crank. The crank rotates two times to each one turn of the cam (because the cranks sprocket is half...

    3.55 or 3.73's?

Exactly, but for the one trip to the track each year I could never justify it.

    Weird timing problem

The MAF is supposed to make a difference when warmed up ... check the voltage. When cold the computer runs in open loop (rich) If that's not it, redrop the dist ... at no point in it's swing should you be obstructed by the stat housing when going from -10* to +10*.

    Weird timing problem

:stupid: CaptainObvious: If you zero the balancer on the compression stroke, then the rotor has to point dead on at the cap terminal for cylinder #1. You are using the correct cylinder numbering for #1, right? The only other thing I could conceive is that maybe the "new" MAF is throwing...

    3.55 or 3.73's?

3.73's in a daily driver :notnice: 3.55's in a daily driver :nice: 73's are fun if you like to shift as often as a truckdriver  -For '90 and newer trannys they don't make a gear for this r&p -1st gear (3.35) is too short for a street engine and you might as well take off in 2nd...

First you have a rod or such knocking, now a heater core  If this is your first time you're gonna love it  Cancel your plans for your next 3-day weekend. :( After doing it a few times you'll be able to do it in a day ... unfortunately I can do it in my sleep now. :nonono:

    Weird timing problem

Hmm, that is really bizarre. Whenever I've adjusted timing the more I advance it, the higher my idle speed goes. Maybe start from square one again, you might have accidentally bumbled something  I guess I've always been lucky and done it right the first time :shrug...

PROBLEMS after cam swap, please help!!!

What is the fuel pressure at? Did you play with the idle stop screw at all to raise or lower the idle speed? Some people have to drill a 1/4" hole in the throttle blade to get the F to idle right without dying. To me it sounds like the computer can not shorten the injector pulse any...

    Weird timing problem

Are you checking with the spout disconnected? Was your cam and crank aligned when you dropped the distributor ... The car shouldn't idle worth a crup when set at an actual 10* ATDC. This doesn't leave much time for the cylinder to build good pressure to keep the assembly rotating with the...
