Mufffins for old style adjustable traction bars

latamud, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I might just put in some solid spacers or a stack of washers. It might make for a a little more noise but not as noisy as it is now with the end banging against the mount. Thanks

What was the purpose of the "dual range" function on the early C-4 Transmission

I reckoned it was for something like that. Thanks for the info.

What was the purpose of the "dual range" function on the early C-4 Transmission

I know how it works, one range allows the car to take off in 2nd gear and the other allows you to use all three gears. What is the purpose? It seems that you have to pull back to low if you wnat to keep it in gear when drag racing. Thanks

So I have heard the Mustang II suspension has poor negative camber gain..

Are there holes or studs? Can the mounting system be moved by welding/grinding. Caster is the angle or difference in upper and lower ball joints per se. If the lower joint is more forward then you will have negative caster. This is what causes the steering wheel to return to center when you let...

Mufffins for old style adjustable traction bars

That is what it looks like on the back end of the bar. My Dad told me it was to adjust the preload on the springs. He said it had something to do w/ the effectiveness of the traction bar itself. He also said that you could stagger the setting to help load the right rear tire if you had an open...

Mufffins for old style adjustable traction bars

Strut rod bushing holes are too big as well as the diameter. I don't have the car here at the moment so I cannot take a picture. They look like the original traction bars that bolt or weld on but the strut passes through the rear mount and looks like the strut rod on the front end. It allows...

Mufffins for old style adjustable traction bars

My Stang has a set of traction bars installed (possibly back in the 60's) that will allow you to adjust the the spring tension by turning a nut. They also have these rubber muffins or bushings that are now worn. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get these or know of a suitable replace...

What is too wide for a 14 inch tire?

I'm not looking for handling in the racing sense but more like the normal driving sense. The car slides rather easily when the pavement is wet when even light throttle is applied in a turn especially when I make a turn at an intersection. I had the same problem w/ a Falcon which had the same...

What is too wide for a 14 inch tire?

I'm looking to replace my tires, 235 60 R14 on bac and 205 60r 14 on front is what I have now. I think that the difference in size has thrown off my front end geometry and is the cause of my traction issues when turning in the rain. I would like to put the 235 60 r14 tire on all four wheels but...

    New carb on 351C problems!

Most folks that have come to me w/ similar troubles w/ a Holley have screwed the idle air mixture screws all the way closed. The screws are located (at least used to be) in the side of the metering block.

    Rattle Noise

Yep Detonation. Maybe you bumped the distributor during maintenance. What octane of gasoline are you using? Try to use as high as you can find which is usually 93 in most cases and occasionally 94 if you're really lucky.

    My defrost is worthless!

Yeah just crack them open about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Now of course this will only start working when you start moving but once your moving it works better. Also at lower speeds you may need to crack it open more then at higher speeds. It won't be that much colder in the winter not like riding your bike!

    My defrost is worthless!

Are you opening the vent/wing windows any? These only let in a a small amount of air but also suck out air as well. This will help your defroster out. Also check the condition of the defroster duct and its cones at the register. Sometimes these go bad as the register cones are made of paper and...

Noisy Hydraulic Lifters - Any Fix Ideas ?

Are they Rhoads lifters? They have a certain bleed down rate at low rpms to give bettre vacuum and low end torque and pump up at higher rpms giving you full lift and duration giving you the full power characteristics of the cam. This may be why you have lower power output w/ the new lifters.

Need some basic direction: c4 vs. T5

The toploader will take almost anything you can throw at it. It is as bulletproof as any factory item gets. You will spend way more on a 5spd that can handle high levels of torque. A c-4 can be built to handle gobs of torque. Gear vendors makes an overdrive that bolts on, but you will have to...

I think there may be a new additive in the fuel?

I noticed the other day when scoping out my Sportster there was some light gray color to my exhaust. I check the 'Stang and saw it there too. Both have had the carb tinkered with so I thought may be jetting. But then I noticed on several cars I was behind in traffic had the same indicators. I...

    sloppy steering

Do you have headers? If so there may be a drop down bracket on the frame inorder to allow the slave cylinder to clear the headers. If it is not tight enough it will move from side to side. Also in some cases (as w/ mine) the previous owner may have added power steering and did not properly...
