    302 idle and vacuum concerns

I really appreciate the assist from everyone and hope to be able to pay it forward..... Had a couple of hours this afternoon to do some playing and this is where I'm at now: Reverified that there were no vacuum leaks. sprayed so much carb cleaner all over the top of the engine and carb...

    302 idle and vacuum concerns

Gene, The idle was never really any good. I have been replacing and fixing things since I got the car. It did have an electronic ignition setup (and the rat's nest of wires that goes with it) from a granada and a holley 650 carb on it. I found that the holley carb was basically a piece of...

1966 Coupe - Looking for Radio Advice

I went with a custom audiosound USA-66 with speakers in the front kickpanels. I like the fact that it looks like it's original but it isnt. The radio did come with a 3.5 mm plug that you can plug into any mp3, ipod, or portable tape player and listen through the stereo (I routed mine to inside...

    302 idle and vacuum concerns

Plugs are new and when I checked them they were still good, verified the gap was correct. Brand new distributer and the dwell is at 27.8. (A friend recommended that I set the dwell to 29). I also picked up some spacers and routed the plug wires(new wires) to neaten them up and make sure they...

    302 idle and vacuum concerns

Appreciate the help. I went all around the carb, manifold, etc.. looking for a vacuum leak and didn't find any. So all thats left for that is to pull the manifold and put in new gaskets? I also forgot to mention that when I first started it up cold (choke engaged), the vacuum was about...

    302 idle and vacuum concerns

This is an 82 302 with a T5 tranny in a 66 convertible. The idle is quite rough to the point where I cant get it below 650 rpm without taking a chance on the engine stalling. Even with the idle speed adjusted at 700, when I start the engine warm after it has been sitting for a few minutes...

5.0 water pump, alternator, belts and running hot

looking at the pics of the timing covers: Which one was the std and which is the reverse? One other thing I noticed was the fan blades on the alternator. The engine turns clockwise and the way the alternator fan turns it seems it would do a better job of cooling the alternator turning...

    66 convertible top pump overpressure

Pulled the pump and took it apart. Aside from a little bit of sludge at the bottom of the reservior, it's clean. Actually the pump itself is shiny-clean. Talked with the guys at the mustang shop near my house and they don't know what it could be (they'd never heard if it before), but...

5.0 water pump, alternator, belts and running hot

Thanks for the quick reply. Luckily (or unluckily), I can't take the credit for all the mixing and matching that was done on the car. That honor goes to the guy who had it before me. This job is just another in a long line of corrections I've had to make to it. :( AS for the gage, I know...

5.0 water pump, alternator, belts and running hot

I have a 66 convertible with a 5.0 taken from an 82. After doing various other things to correct the sloppy work the previous owner did, it's now a driver. Since I have been driving it around, I noticed that it's running pretty hot. I dont know how many degrees, but the temp gage is over at the...

    66 convertible top pump overpressure

The fuse is out just to keep from hitting the controls and having the pump shoot out whatever fluid is left in the system. The rams are fine, the hose was new, so the only thing left is the pump. I guess I'll be taking it apart to see what is up with it.

    66 convertible top pump overpressure

While cycling the convertible top hydraulic system (I was trying to bleed out the air after replacing the hoses), whenever the pistons reach the end of their travel and I don't let go of the switch fast enough, the hydraulics build up enough pressure to rupture a hose. I have replaced a hose 3...

    66 mustang 302 header clearance

I've already installed the modern driveline cable. and tranny and and all of the associated components. Now, it's on to the exhaust. I did look up previously what headers would work (accorrding to Modern Driveline) their website says: "The cable will clear Headman 88660, Doug Thorley Tri-y...

do you consider working on you classic a "break from reality or big hassle" ?

I picked up my 66 convertible last summer, thinking I just had to do a few things to make it roadworthy and then find a nice body shop sometime down the road. Boy was I wrong! Every time I go to work on something, I find stuff that the previous owner had half assed: Completely redid the...

    T-5 Conversion, Cable Clutch Issues....

It sounds like you might have an issue with the clutch itself. Did you get a matched set? (Sorry, I have to ask. When I changed mine to a cable, I almost bought only the pressure plate until someone recommended that I get the matched set and replace it all.) I also ran into a problem when I...

    66 mustang 302 header clearance

I have a 66 mustang convertible with an 83 5.0 and t-5 installed. I'm converting it to a cable clutch. (the original job was to put the right engine plate in (it had one for an auto tranny) but it turned into replacing the clutch, bellhousing and flywheel as well.) I put in a modern driveline...

    66 flywhel

The flywheel from autozone and clutch I bought from pepboys wouldnt bolt up. Ended up being due to different manfacturers. (Sachs flywheel, Luk clutch) Ended up getting a Luk flywheel and everything went together nicely. I was told it was a 28oz. Guess I'll find out when I start the car.

    66 flywhel

Thanks. I picked up a stock 83 mustang 5.0 flywheel at autozone. Going to check the fit tomorrow. At the very least, if it doesnt work, I can take it back.

    66 flywhel

Maybe I should have done a search before posting. Argh, a newbie mistake:( In another post someone suggested a 157 tooth flywheel is needed rather than a 164 tooth which I probably have (time to go count teeth!) Anyone agree with that?
