idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

The following is a direct quote from my Ford Shop Manual CD; Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) FMEM is an alternate system strategy in the PCM that maintains vehicle operation if one or more sensor inputs fail. When a sensor input is perceived to be out-of-limits by the PCM, an...

idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

The ACT sensor screws into the air inlet tube right after the MAF meter. The ECT sensor screws into the hard coolant line between the distributer and the alternator. You'll need a 1" deep socket to remove them.

Sorry, I lied! :D One more post. If you want to check your ECT sensor output yourself, I found a complete temp range chart comparing temp with voltage/resistance on the Ford Fuel Injection website under sensor's/ECT. Look at the bottom of the page...

Ref your problem; That statement is just plain wrong. I explained why you were incorrect in my earlier posts. You were very "matter of fact" in this statement. Hence the wording "wrong, wrong, wrong." I agree with you on that one. You also stated you had a trouble code...

idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

96darkhorse, As you mentioned that your car was pinging, it reminded me of another poster who had major pinging problems. He solved the problem by changing the ACT sensor (it was faulty, but wasn't throwing a code...gee, havn't we discussed this before? :D ). Have a look at the...

idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

Mo Dingo WTF is your problem? You are the end all be all expert on Ford EEC? LOLOL  I highly doubt it. I'm making my post from my own experiences with rough idle/hanging idle etc. and how I SOLVED the problems. What is your experience solving these problems? Quote: The IAT/ECT...

idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

"He said the idle speed problem was exactly the same no matter if the car was hot or cold. That rules the ECT out. A bad ECT would make the car run richer than hell, and trigger a CEL." Absolutely WRONG,WRONG,WRONG!!! A bad ECT could cause the car to run rich OR lean. Also,it may not...

idle issues and sudden bucks!! please help

How old are your ECT and IAT sensor's? If these are original/old, they could definitely be causing your roving idle/bukcing issues. Cheers

FINALLY!!! Fixed my cold start/idle problems!

"Can you post up the Ford p/n for that ECT sensor..." The following basic part # is from my Ford shop manual CD : 12A648 "What the heck is an ECT sensor and what does it do? How much does it cost?" An ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor tells your cars computer how hot the coolant...

FINALLY!!! Fixed my cold start/idle problems!

A short history first. My 95 GT was experiencing the typical hanging idle, rough idle problems this past winter. I installed new ECT and ACT sensor's from NAPA in February. That seemed to fix my hanging idle problems, however my cold idle was still pretty rough. Idle improved as car warmed...

Mach 460 readout "Bad" on display?

Fixed the problem. :) I found a thread on Corral about the same thing. The guy said to disconnect the power and it resets itself. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes, reconnected it and checked the radio. It worked!! :) Kind of like rebooting a computer. Weird.

Mach 460 readout "Bad" on display?

The factory mach 460 sounds pretty good for a stock system. I'd rather not spend hundreds of dollars replacing it if I don't have to. Especially if there's an easy fix. Anyone else?

cold start is making me mad

I'm sure you know this already, but I'm going to say it again anyways. :D Remember to unplug you're battery for 30 min to reset your EEC after you change the IAT sensor. Cheers

cold start is making me mad

A bad ACT (IAT) sensor would definitely cause the problems you're experiencing. A sensor can be bad, yet not through a code. I had some similar problems on my 95 GT. A new ACT sensor solved most of my cold start bucking problems. You should also clean you're MAF sensor if that hasn't been...

    Idleing problems

Could be alot of things. First thing would be to check the codes. Do a search to find the method....its very easy to do (jumper the test connectors with a paper clip...count check engine light flashes). Second.....a COMPLETE tuneup. New....; - plugs - cap - rotor - plugwires - fuel...
