    Most likely a dumb question?

Ok - Here it goes. Is it possible to start your engine to let it warm up for valve-adjustment without having the motor fastened to the motor-mounts? Or is the thing gona wobble all over the place & mess something up? The reason I ask is I have to remove the mounting bolts, to lower the...

    Rocker arm totaly loose...

This sucks... To be so close to actually getting to take the car out & drive for the first time - I was actually driving the car home from the exhaust shop when this happened & looking forward to putting some miles on it this weekend. I have had the car since Sep 06 & this would have been the...

    Rocker arm totaly loose...

So I figured out today that the strange knocking noise coming from my carb/intake was actually coming from the valve cover. When I removed the valve cover I found that the rocker arm on the #5 exhaust valve was sort of laying across the stud at a 45* angle. The adjusting nut was still on the...

    It's not vapor-lock / part 2

Man - Don't tell me that, I don't want to pull my intake again... ( LOL ) Far as vacuum goes I figured with the cam that I have 7" would be normal? Here's my advertised cam specs: It's a Crower solid lifter - Part#15313 Intake: Duration: 274* Lift: .541 Exhaust: Duration: 288*...

    It's not vapor-lock / part 2

UPDATE* Well I just removed the drivers side valve cover & found the #5 Cylinders exhaust valve rocker to be completely loose. WTF! At least I now know what the noise was. When I set the lash I tripple checked EVERYTHING - How in the world could this have happened? Is it possable...

    It's not vapor-lock / part 2

Just tried spraying WD-40 around base of carb & around where the intake mates to the heads & block - nothing... I measured the vacuum & the guage read around 7" @ idle. The needles shaking a little but I figure that probably has more to do with the cam. I checked the float level & they...

    It's not vapor-lock / part 2

Ok then - Like most everyone stated, it's definitely not vapor-lock... I got my new Powermaster starter today & as soon as I fired it up the problem was still there, cold engine & all.:bang: Spending a little more time with it I can again, best describe the sound as quick little popping...

    vapor-lock???

Thank you - The car has been a South Florida car for the past 20 years at least. It was in Orlando for a couple of years ( sitting in a field on a farm ) before I got it. Your right too , there aren't that many around. That's why I keep loitering around on StangNet when it comes to trying...

    vapor-lock???

Your wires look great - thanks for the tip. I had been on the Highway for a couple of minutes @ about 3000rpm when I all of a sudden I started to " hear " little popping sounds. They sounded like they were coming from the carb. ( prior to that everything was fine ) Next thing I knew I...

    vapor-lock???

Thanks - I drained the tanks prior to starting - didnt really see any particles in the container. I also installed a new fuel filter. Today I'll try seperating the wires. ( I sure like the way they look zip-tied though, LOL ) It's a Wieland Stealth... PS. The motor only did this...

    vapor-lock???

Unfortunately, the answer is no. The fire-wall is only as wide as the engine so trying to come up either side would put the fuel-line right beside the headers. My only option is to try running it to the front of the motor & then up and over... I've contemplated running the line through...

    vapor-lock???

It's definately sort-of squished between the fire-wall & head. You can also see in pic #2 where the fuel line coming out of the "el cheapo" regulator is laying flat againsted the intake... I'll try to reposition it. Do you think from my description of how the motor is acting that what I am...

    vapor-lock???

FINALLY - after 7 long months, I got my car started. ( yee, haw ) I was so excited I drove several laps around my block, open headers & all. Several minutes later the police showed up. Apparently one of my neighbors wasn't enjoying the sound of the motor as much as me! The cool thing...

What would cause idle to settle slowly

I jsut had a similar problem after my head, intake, cam, & carb swap & in my hastiness to get everything up and going I overlooked re-installing the throttle-return spring. After checking EVERTHING else, and I mean EVERYTHING ( timing, choke fast idle, idle mixture, vaccum leaks, etc ) - I...

    Starting probs after cam install???

Yeeowww!!! After lining the rotor up with the #1 plug-wire terminal on the distributor cap instead of the #1 cylinder ( like I originally did ) the motor fired right up! I let it run for three seperate 10min cycles at 2500rpm to break in the cam & everything seemed to work perfect. Thanks...

    Starting probs after cam install???

LOL - Your not sounding condecending at all! I truly value everyones input & welcome any advice. ( it all helps to reinforce that I'm doing things acurately ) I am getting a bit lost here though - You mentioned that when the #1 piston is @ TDC, you line the rotor up with the terminal on the...

    Starting probs after cam install???

Ok - Disregard the question about the plug wire location on the dist cap... I found some old pic's & was able to determin their correct placement. ( I'm still confused though as to why there are no markings on the cap ) The motor is a 69' 302. The cam spec card didn't come with any...

    Starting probs after cam install???

After doing a "search" I've pretty much concluded from other threads that I'm experiencing some sort of a timing issue with my motor after doing the cam swap. When I turn the motor over all I get is a popping coming from the carb. I've tried advancing & retarding the distributor ( as far as...
