    New best et and mph

I am using cheap Summit adjustables on the front of the car with stock springs but the front end does not come up. I cant tell the difference between the 3 shock settings though.:notnice: It may be time for some good adjustables or just some good 90/10's. Damn Jimmys66! That cam is huge. It's...

    New best et and mph

I am using an Edge 3200 stall converter. It was some of the best money spent on the car. Night and day difference over the old 2600 TCI. For traction bars I am using Slide-a-links. I don't know how well they are planting the tires but they did stop all wheelhop.

    New best et and mph

Jimmys66: You can go with a 347 AND have less than 500hp AND run less than 12 sec. A good short block, AFR185 or Twisted Wedge heads, cam in the 230 @.050" intake and 6-10 more exhaust, 650-750 tuned carb, Vic Jr. intake, long tube headers and full 2 1/2" exhaust. It can be done with 3.55...

    New best et and mph

Thanks guys! My video man David (ga289stocker on here) did not go with me last night so I have no video. Hopefully I can get some in a few weeks. Right David? haha mrmustangman357: No, I have not upgraded the 8" yet. I hope to keep it and hope it lasts on my journey to the 11.5's...

    New best et and mph

I drove the Vinyl66 to Atlanta Dragway last night for some test and tune. It was a cool nice night for racing. Lots of other people thought the same. It was very crowded. In the spring I had an oil galley plug push out of the front of the block which made me spin a bearing on the bottom end...

    HP guess

There are online calculators that can give you a ballpark hp figure if you input your car's race weight and mph in the quarter. What was your mph? Also what was your 60 foot time? If you ran a 13.90 with 2.80 gears you are doing very well! Swap those out for a set of 3.80's and watch your...

is a 3" exahust too big?

coolblue65: I have never raced on my 245/45 street tires. And I really don't want to either. Too much feathering of the throttle and too much tire spin. I use 235/60/15 MT drag radials at the track. Even using those, I will still spin on the line if I hammer the throttle as opposed to quickly...

is a 3" exahust too big?

Go with mandrel bent 2.5". I was contemplating the same change a while back on my 347 that is built very much like yours. I was swayed away from the 3" by people that have it saying that it is MUCH:notnice: louder than the 2.5" pipes. Plus, your cam is the roller version of my XE274H so you...

Got a decent mph at the track last night

Congrats on the new mph Paul!! Get that thing off the line and run 9's all day long. I know you realize it but you've got LOTS left in that 60 foot. Oh, and that is a decent mph. lol

How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

Certainly the best way to smooth out the exhaust ports is with them off the block in front of you on a bench. But if I were going through the trouble to do that I would just bolt on a better set of heads. I used to have an '89 Mustang with stock E7 heads. I used a Dremel with flexible shaft...

How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

The tri y's will work great with what you have now. A 347 will need larger tubes. Either 1 5/8" for a milder build or 1 3/4" for a higher HP build. Go with the 347. There are no problems with the current 347's on the market. Extra hp, extra torque, for the same price as the 331.

headers - ceramic coat or not?

I recently had my Hooker Comp Headers ceramic coated at nitro plate. nitroplate.com They were recommended on a drag race forum. They look beautiful! The underhood temps are dramatically reduced. I took the car for a drive last night for about 25 miles. When I got back, I checked under the...

    what ET for mph?

Congrats on getting into the mid 13's on those skinny tires and freeway gears! Now throw some gear in there and some slicks or drag radials and run some high12's. It's not that easy because you will most likely have to play with shocks, springs, traction bars, and frame connectors. But you...

    Cams Cams Cams

2.80 gears! Are you driving on the Autobahn?:D Going to a 3.55 gear will feel like you gained 50 hp. That is the easiest acceleration helper/fun factor mod you can do right now. Your cruising rpm will go up 600rpm at 60mph. So instead of reving 2260rpm you will be reving 2860rpm. If you...

    I NEED RUBBERS!

I run 245/45 17's on the rear of my '66. Great fit. A friend of mine runs 255/40 17 on his '65 with no prob.

    Custom Camshaft

Besides the great choice on the engine, you have chosen a great trans and rear end too.:nice: All that in a lightweignt '65 Coupe will be a blast! An 850 will probably be the best to feed that beast. Joe of Joe Sherman racing routinely dynos engines. On built 347's he uses a 750 and says it...

    Custom Camshaft

You can't go wrong with a custom cam from FTI. Ed knows his stuff. A solid roller in that built 408 will be one heck of a runner! Most engine builders will tell you to get a Holley or Demon carb for most adjustability and power. If you do get a cam from Ed, ask him which size and style carb...

Edelbrock or AFR Cylinder Heads on my 393 Stroker?

The 205's now come with Peterson solid roller valve springs, hardened ten degree locks and retainers, lightweight 8mm valve stems, and are factory ported. Joe Sherman Racing did a test on a 10.5 compression solid roller cammed 347 and the AFR205's showed a 50hp gain over the Vic Jr's at 7200...

Edelbrock or AFR Cylinder Heads on my 393 Stroker?

I have used neither head but have researched both. The Vic Jr's are good heads and work very well with a little porting. The AFR 205's have better valvetrain, flow more, and most importantly will make more power. They do cost more but you can not upgrade the Vic. Jr's to compete with the AFR's...
