New best et and mph

I drove the Vinyl66 to Atlanta Dragway last night for some test and tune. It was a cool nice night for racing. Lots of other people thought the same. It was very crowded.

In the spring I had an oil galley plug push out of the front of the block which made me spin a bearing on the bottom end. I also found out that the crankshaft was bent. SO I got a new 347 block from Woody with a Scat crank, Probe forged pistons, THREADED OIL GALLEY PLUGS, etc. I used everything else from my old build up except for replacing the mufflers(Flowmasters to Magnaflow), and pushrods(thin walled Comp's to some thicker walled 1 piece Summit pieces).

First run I spun to a 1.95 60 foot time but still managed to run an 11.97.
Second run I decided to launch it like a puss so I would not spin at all. It was difficult g.r.a.d.u.a.l.l.y getting into the throttle but I didn't spin!
It was a new best time and mph for my car. The 60 foot still sucked though!!! That run looked like this:

R/T... .032
60'... 1.832
330... 4.967
1/8... 7.581
MPH... 93.93
1000... 9.858
1/4... 11.803
MPH... 115.28

It made the night even better when I won the $50 Year One gift certificate for quickest et of all the street cars (dot approved tires) during Power Hour. I actually improved the mph on a later run to 115.5 but the et was slower.

I have got to find a way to get my 60 footers down. In the past I have had many 1.7x's and even a 1.69. But now I just simply overwhelm these little 235 drag radials. If I can turn a 1.70 I should easily be able to run in the 11.6's. My goal has been to get this car in the 11.5's NA, full exhaust, with street legal tires. My new numbers are promising but it is still going to put me to the test trying to get there.

But I love it!!:nice:

Thanks guys!
My video man David (ga289stocker on here) did not go with me last night so I have no video. Hopefully I can get some in a few weeks. Right David? haha

No, I have not upgraded the 8" yet. I hope to keep it and hope it lasts on my journey to the 11.5's!!

rbohm:
Yeah, my 60 foot is BAD for an 11 second car. I would feel great if I would start ripping off 1.6's. I feel that's where I need to be.

Jimmys66:
408's are badass. If you are like me and want a sleeper (no rollbar, 5 pt. harness, etc.) and only want to run into the 11.5's then the 347 will certainly do it.

I really wanted 500hp and run a 12 sec pass on dots.

I don't want to run a cage yet as it is really a street car and I don't want to buy a larger hood (and fuel pump and radiator etc :D) . I'm afraid of what a 408 and a set of slicks will do to this car.:notnice:

If my car does what yours does with a 347 and saves me a poop load of money by reusing alot of my current combo, I'll be a happy man.:nice:

Jimmys66:
You can go with a 347 AND have less than 500hp AND run less than 12 sec.
A good short block, AFR185 or Twisted Wedge heads, cam in the 230 @.050" intake and 6-10 more exhaust, 650-750 tuned carb, Vic Jr. intake, long tube headers and full 2 1/2" exhaust. It can be done with 3.55 gears but probably a little easier with 3.80 or 4.10.

What setup are you currently running?

I am using an Edge 3200 stall converter. It was some of the best money spent on the car. Night and day difference over the old 2600 TCI.

For traction bars I am using Slide-a-links. I don't know how well they are planting the tires but they did stop all wheelhop.

have you tried the good ole 90/10s on it? I saw ur vid on cardomain and it takes off like a bat outta hell but wih very little weight transfer! A set of 27x8 ET streets and 90/10s should shave off the 60 ft nicely, but be prepared for that carrier falling out :)

Right now the motor is a 302, Bigs 650dp, stealth, 1 5/8 long tubes, FMS ported heads and a 252 260, .586 .608 lift ultradyne solid cam. It's got a 9" with 3.73 gears and a top loader.

I'd like to step up in cubic inch and down in cam shaft.:D The goal is to make the car more streetable with more hp.

The 90/10s with soft springs make a huge difference plus losing the sway bar. I just took this set up out of the car for a more street/autox friendly set up.

I am using cheap Summit adjustables on the front of the car with stock springs but the front end does not come up. I cant tell the difference between the 3 shock settings though.:notnice: It may be time for some good adjustables or just some good 90/10's.

Damn Jimmys66! That cam is huge. It's a far cry from my 230/236 hydraulic.
Your other parts would work well on a 347. Throw in a smaller solid flat cam in there and it should run great and be perfectly streetable.

I didn't even tell you guys that the cam has 104deg lobe sep.:D

The cam is very big. At one time the car was set up to drag race but, I'm slowly puting it back to street duty.

Surprisingly, the cam works great with the 3.70 gears. I don't have power brakes or an auto so it works fine. It's a dog under 2000rpms but it keeps pulling to 7000rpm.:nice:

I'll probably use the same cam you are next time around or step up one size to a 284. The cam I have now is rated to give a 347 500hp.:rlaugh:

The stealth will probably have to go since some simple math says that it will give up at somthing like 5700rpms on a 347.
