Will these valves hit my pistons??

How can I tell if there will be a problem with valve to piston clearence between a new pair of Edelbrock performer rpm heads with 2.02 intakes (OK I know I could bolt them on and check ... but I haven't bought them yet :) ) it says on the Edelbrock site that the pistons may reqiure notching if...

    Streetable Cam??

The carb on the car is a 600 with vac secondaries. I cut the air horn off after reading on the internet several accounts by people who had done this and acheived better performance. .... The car was driving exactly the same before my little piece of *surgery*, so I can't see it being that. It...

    Streetable Cam??

I've got the timing set at 16 deg BTDC ... as for rear gears, I've no idea as the plate is missing off the axle. It is an eight inch axle and I think it quite low geared as the car doesn't seem to have much top end speed .... sorry I can't be more helpful. I guess I will have to take the axle...

    Streetable Cam??

Thanx for all the replies Starting off is no problem .. the plucking (or surging) just occurs when at low revs in each gear .. such as when in traffic etc. To keep the revs up at slow speeds I just run out of gears (to shift down to !!) I have checked for air leaks and can't find any at all...

    Streetable Cam??

Advertised duration 280 at both inlet and exhaust ... 230 @ .050 at both ... .512 lift with 110 deg. lobe separation. Comp cams give operating range of 2000 to 6000 rpm. They state needs (or reccommended) 9.5 : 1 comp. ratio ... I have 9.6.

    Streetable Cam??

hi all I am wondering if the cam which I have in my 289 is causing slow driving problems. It is a Comp cams Magnum 289h. Since rebuilding the motor using this cam I find the car plucks and jerks (similar to a miss) when I am driving slowly in low gears (4 speed manual) revs less than 2000. I...

    Torque to me !!!

Hi all How tight should I torque the bolts on an alloy inlet manifold fitted to a 289 with 351W heads?? My buddy says 26 ft. lb. which I tried and sheared the first bolt  The *RTFM* says 14 -16 for stock 289 with iron manifold ... any advice what the correct torque should be? BTW this...

    HELP WITH MY HOLLEY !!

I've been messing about and got the car to run by lowering the float levels .. there is no gas coming out of the air horn *hole* now ... the car is running, but still not ticking over and there is still a lot of gas coming from somewhere and finishing up in the valleys of the inlet manifold ...

    HELP WITH MY HOLLEY !!

hi all I have just rebuilt the Holley 600 with vac secondaries (4160) because the car was missing a bit and I thought this may cure it .... the only thing it may cure is the sales of a lot more gas here in Spain. The car starts ... but then there is a whole buch of gas flowing out of the hole...

    Guideplates and Carbs.

The roller tipped rail rockers are from Comp cams ... I realise now I should have probably gone for full roller rockers with guideplates. I kind of thought that the carb would be a little big, but my pal has just taken it of his corvette and offered it to me for next to nothing. I may buy the...

    Guideplates and Carbs.

A couple of bits of advice needed here 1. Is it OK and advisable to use pushrod guideplates with rail type rockers. I have scew in studs and the pushrods are hardened. It is just that the rocker arms seem to have been rubbing very slightly on the studs at the base so I thought guide plates...

Shorter pushrods ... or longer studs ??

Hi all I have recently rebuilt the engine on my 65 f/b 289. it has 351w heads which I have used Comp cams springs and roller tip rail rockers. When I put the whole thing back together the nuts on the new screw in 3/8 studs (the old screw in studs were badly worn) were only just seating down to...

    OH me OH my!

I was in a similar situation recently when a bolt broke fastening the clutch cover plate to the flywheel ... I was only torqueing it to 28f/p so it must have been a *metal fatigue* type problem like yours was. I just drilled it and used an *easy-out* type extractor, but drilled the hole quite...

    Yet another H/P *estimate* request.

Thanks for the replies Ozsum67 ... I do realise that there a lot of factors effecting hp, but as I said I have no idea where I could find anyone with a dyno round here in Spain ... they are not so long out of donkeys here, never mind horsepower :p It is not an exact estimate, just a rough...

    Yet another H/P *estimate* request.

Hi there I was wondering if anyone could give a rough idea of the power output of the engine I have ... (it isn't really easy to get it dyno-ed here in Spain). It is a 289 block bored 30 over with Keith Black flat-top pistons, the heads are 351W from 1970 with stock valve sizes and I worked...

    CAN'T GET ANY GEARS

Well I have found out what the problem is ..... ME :nonono: When I originally installed the clutch I took great care to see that the disk was in the right way round .... but I had problems lining the splines on the shaft up with the clutch and was worried that I had mis-aligned the disk...

    CAN'T GET ANY GEARS

Hi there thanks for the input mp67 .... I really thought that it would be more involved removing the tranny ... but what you say makes sense. I will be able to see how the parts are actually sitting with oneanother (is that a real word??) I have only got a small jack so I will have to put it up...
