    aluminum drive shaft

I put the Ford Motorsport alum driveshaft in mine and noticed a difference right away. The car felt lighter on the takeoff. I saw somewhere that the dyno results showed no change in horsepower output, but a slight increase in rear wheel torque.

    what brand fuel

Unocal 76, 91 octane (highest rated pump gas in California) The sticker says it contains up to 10% ethanol, but the 98 cobra runs great on it. What I like about the station I use is that they have a seperate pump for each grade of fuel instead of the selection button. Then I know it's not...

    Is this normal?

An additive called MMT can cause the red look on the plugs. Shell gas is notorious for this. As far as I know, it's harmless.

just got 98 svt i need help ,engine vibrates and window clicks

Hey.. congrats on your new car! I also have a 98 and really like it. The window sounds like it could be either a problem with it being on the track wrong or the automatic roll down feature not shutting off once it's all the way down. It's really not too hard to get the interior panel off and...

Wanted: Sparkplug Wire Recommendations for my 97 Cobra 4.6 32 valve

I have a 98 Cobra and I put a set of Taylor wires in it and they've been good to me so far, plus they look good. They're rather expensive but seem to be good. I was gonna get MSD wires but they were out of them and I think the stock wires are decent too, they're more of a custom fit. I had to...

    tranny griding in 4th

'ello.. I guess it could be possible that the short throw shifter isn't engaging all the way. But the grinding would be caused by the synchro going bad for that gear. I don't know a whole lot about it, but I've heard that the 1st to 2nd is the most common one to go out. I have a 98 cobra as...

Annoying miss problem,, need some help

So it's only missing once it's fully warmed up...? It's possible that the coil packs are bad. I've read that the aftermarket coils don't last as long as the Motorcraft ones. The extra heat from the engine could cause the resistance to go too high in the coils and cause some problems if theyr'e...

    EGR delete

Well, I've never done an egr delete or known anyone who has on a fuel injection system. The computer is designed to run with it intact. If you're concerned about power, no worries because it's designed not to be open during loaded engine conditions such as heavy or wide open throttle. Your...

98 GT engine start up knock

Could it be a death rattle? It's considered normal and Ford has it listed in the TSB's. Do a search on the forums here for 'death rattle' and see if it matches what you're getting. I wonder if Lucas oil additive would help...

    Question about synthetic oil

Ahh, cool.. that's good to hear cuz I was a little concerned that it might have developed a bad habit. Thanks for the input! Peace~

    Question about Spark plugs...

If the car runs fine with the ones you put in, I'd leave them in. The main reason they use platinum plugs is for longer intervals between tune ups. Platinum also is a hotter plug than copper. I don't know if Ford used double platinum plugs or not. The dealer's parts dept should be able to tell ya.

    Question about synthetic oil

Yah, 2 quarts is a bit much compared to only about 1 with regular oil. I may give a semi synthetic a try next time around. I've seen Ford engines go over 250k miles on regular oil at the dealers I've worked for. They just changed it regularly and they kept on runnin! Thanks for the advice...

Failed emissions for EGR need HELP!!!!!

A common cause of this is the PDFE sensor, it's easy to get to and replace and costs around 30 bucks from the dealer. But before going out and getting one, you can test the egr valve by running the car at idle and connecting a live vaccuum line up to the valve. If the engine slows way down or...

Need help replacing clutch on my 2000

Well, I just did a google search on it and didn't come up with anything. However, I know that the Haynes manual has instructions on it. They have them at Autozone and cost around 15 to 20 bones. If you do a lot of work on your car yourself as I do, it's definately worth having one around!

    Question about synthetic oil

This is more a question of opinion, I suppose...here's the deal. I have a 98 Cobra with 110k miles on it and I used Mobil 1 synthetic oil for the last oil change. I noticed the oil consumption went up significantly. With conventional oil it would go through about 1 quart in a 3000 mile...

    why wont this car start???

Hmm...if it's getting fuel and spark, it should start up especially if it ran ok when you parked it. Maybe it's just flooded and needs to dry out. Are all the air intake passages clear? Could it be possible that the computer has the wrong timing set for the engine? That could cause the...

Engine bay cleaned, now battery light is on. Suggestions?

Sounds like the alternator isn't putting out enough juice at low rpm. If it were me, I'd put a volt meter on it and go from there. It's possible that they got the alternator saturated, so you might want to wait a few more days and see if it clears up. Chances are that the place that cleaned...

    2006 V6 Maintenance Questions

Hey... yeah, that sounds kinda expensive to me as well. You could find out what the manifold costs from the dealer, then see if anyone will tell you how many hours that job is supposed to take and add it all up to see if it sounds reasonable. On the egr cleaning... it shouldn't need that at...

    fuel problems with a 95 3.8

It kinda sounds like a vaccuum leak. It's too bad you can't find out what trouble code the computer's picking up, cuz that would tell you a lot right there. I'd start with the simple stuff like plugs and coil pack, also the air and fuel filters. A overly rich or lean mixture would throw a code...

    RPM's drop intermitantly at idle

I have a 98 and it would do that sometimes. It was worst at operating temperature after I'd back up and stop. The engine would stall most of the time. It's gotten a lot better since I changed my coil packs and the mass air flow sensor. Every now and then the idle seems to dip a bit low for...
