    we put long tubes on a friends 89 lx, he forgot to order the extensions, so i bought some wire $4, connectors $2 clipped and extended his. never had a problem. even on the dyno, air/fuel was correct. those extensions are pretty high. good luck

    i got some large air conditioning tie straps, compressed the springs out of the car, then bound them with about 4 or 5 straps, losened compressors and shoved them in. i had your same problem, hitting before you get it in. just disconnect the strut, and tie rod end. this may not be the safest...

    shorty, i dont have personal experience, but have read from more than a few folks that their rack seemed fine running everyday (some for more than a year) with no pump....so i guess i would perhaps be prepared for it to fail, but hopefully it would be ok. just my two cents worth...

    get a tie rod puller, take the tires off, disconnect tie rods, disconnect steering rack, and it will come.

    what fuel are you using, i had a old truck (chevy 454) that needed to run premium fuel to keep the valves from rattling. i hear this can happen as a engine starts to wear. just a thought

    i would say buy say a new one, they arent that high for BBK and through my experience at the exhaust shop their time is gold when it comes to custom work. thats my opinion.

    i never had any luck with a hammer, i am always scared of messing something up so am always cautious to use the correct tools.

    i wasnt doubting you, just wondered if that was normal or just good fortune. i do not want to get rid of my power steering, but would be more than willing to spend 10 minutes changing a belt out. does it not have any adverse affect on the rack or anything without the assistance?
