    after cooler questions.

They're talking about an air-to-water intercooler (AWIC). It's pretty much a small air-to-air intercooler (which is like a radiator) with a casing around is so that you can flow water over it instead of air. An AWIC is a lot more complicated than a regular air-to-air intercooler. The...

    New U-joints too short

I took my air sawzall and cut into the rubber around the very edge. I did this on both sides and then took a prybar and ripped the outer donut off. Then I just cleaned up the rubber with my airsaw and a wire wheel.

    RPM guage off whack

Where was the oil level at when it stopped leaking? Was it full or did it only stop after it got a little low? Was it a big leak? A bunch of things could have happened. It's possible the valve cover gasket (or some other oil seal) sprung a small leak but then some engine sludge gunked the...

    New U-joints too short

Exactly. My yoke had the damper too (which I promptly removed, damn extra rotating mass). So I suppose that means it MUST be a 2.3 driveshaft. Oh well. Somebody on the assembly line must've been drinking on the job or something.

    New U-joints too short

I got some u-joints from Advance to put on the T5 driveshaft that I'll be using once I install my T5 that I've just rebuilt and the u-joints are way too small to be used. They were 1-0153's which is what they should be from what I can tell. So I got curious and looked up u-joints for...

    HELP!!! CAR WONT START!!!

The fuel pump should definitely prime when you turn the key from the off position to the on position. Could be a intermittent fault with a fuel pump relay, EEC relay, inertia switch, or something along those lines.

    A/C clutch coil

If you unplug the clutch coil and put 12v to one terminal and ground the other terminal it should lock up. If it doesn't, the clutch is bad.

    RPM guage off whack

It's not really rare for the ignition module to go bad but they are fairly expensive...I suppose it depends how tight on money you are. Do the turn signal indicators blink in the dash? I had an issue where a wire popped out the back of the wiring harness for the multifunction switch on the...

    RPM guage off whack

Mine does the same thing. It'll peg to 3000rpm and rev up from there sometimes. I was thinking the ignition module but since you already replaced that it could be the gauge itself. Getting the instrument panel out isn't too difficult. There's some torx screws holding the instrument panel...

I'm selling my red 88 merkur XR4Ti, anyone want it?

They're definitely fun cars. Lots of weird electrical issues though. I dunno what those damn Germans were doing when they were wiring up those things. I really wish I had the time and money to do something with this car. I'm afraid if I don't sell it before I leave for CA my dad might get...

I'm selling my red 88 merkur XR4Ti, anyone want it?

Well, the main difference from the other 2.3T cars is the body and suspension. The body design was worked on for a while in europe where they put it through wind tunnel tests and whatnot and got the body to have a drag coefficient around 0.32...

I'm selling my red 88 merkur XR4Ti, anyone want it?

So I've had my 3 merkurs sitting around for a couple years with no money to get any of them back up and running (poor college student). I'm finally about to graduate and will be moving to CA in about a month. I need cash and I will probably never get a chance to get 3 merkurs running so I'm...

Repinning the computer is worlds easier than swapping the whole wiring harness.

PIP Circuit Fault - Need Help

If it can only fire on 1 cylinder then ya, the car probably wouldn't be able to start. I blew up a couple pistons on one of my merkurs once and was able to get it to start but to run very very roughly by giving it some gas. That was with two good pistons. I doubt cylinders 1,2 and 3 can fire...

    Starter solenoid not turning on

To answer one of my questions...the white/pink wire is fed by the black(or dark brown)/blue wire next to it when the ignition is switched into the start position. This black/blue wire is not getting hot. I can't find any mention at all of this wire on the schematics in the chiltons...

    Starter solenoid not turning on

So in the past I've had an intermittent problem of my 92 stang not starting. I turn the ignition, fuel pump primes, I hear a relay click on as I turn into the start position but then nothing. I checked for voltage on the switching side of the starter solenoid and I'm not getting anything...

    2.3 Turbo Swap Info

As far as I know, stinger's site has the most straightforward info on the swap. Many people have used it and been successful. If there's something specific you have questions about, ask. If it all seems too confusing, you may want to work on some cheaper, easier mods that can transfer over to...

    Clutch pedal cruise control switch

Odd...my switch has two pigtails...I guess I'll just plug the one that fits in and see how it works once I get the car up and running.

    Clutch pedal cruise control switch

Ok...so the one taped up is the one I already found and plugged in to the driver's side switch. I took the dash apart and found the one behind the radio. The passenger side switch has two connectors, each with two wires. The connector behind the radio only has two wires to it. Does only one of...
