So in the past I've had an intermittent problem of my 92 stang not starting. I turn the ignition, fuel pump primes, I hear a relay click on as I turn into the start position but then nothing. I checked for voltage on the switching side of the starter solenoid and I'm not getting anything.
My chiltons has very little info about the wiring from the ignition switch. I've probed at the wires and found that the white/pink wire at the point of the ignition switch harness doesn't go hot ever. This is shown in the schematics to run through the clutch pedal switch, starter solenoid, and then to the starter so I'm assuming that it should go hot when I turn the key into the start position.
I've tried tracing the white/pink wire (which is shown in the schematic to branch to the clutch pedal switch and also the "ignition system") and it led me to one of the instrument panel connectors (which ohmed out ok). I was unable the follow the other white/pink wire as it went into the main harness and there's at least one other white/pink wire for another circuit.
I just replaced the ignition switch last week as I thought that was the problem with the intermittent issue. The car started up fine several times since then...even yesterday. All I did between yesterday and today with the car is clean up rust on the floorpan.
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone have a good schematic or pinout of the ignition switch/starting circuit? Anyone know what's supposed to feed the white/pink wire from the switch and when it's supposed to switch on? Thanks.
