Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

The oil had been changed twice prior. Once at 200 miles and once at around 700 miles. edit: The oil in both the 200 and 700 mile change looked much better, though still somewhat dark with some metal shavings, as you'd expect in a break-in. No flakes though. Here's a pic of the flakes (not...

on a side note... on an MSD distributor/roller cam setup... should the oil pump pushrod either be visible in that prior picture, and/or have come out with the distributor? if it is supposed to be visible, is it? *ducks*

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

realistically, in this business I can understand a motor shop initially thinking the issue is with the customer. they are high performance engines and not everyone installing them is a nascar or f1 engine repair expert, lol. I'm sure they see all kinds of idiot mistakes, and I'm sure they have...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

Minor update: CHP wanted me to remove the valve covers and examine the rockers, pushrods, which I did. I removed 12 of the pushrods/rockers (the other 4 were compressing a spring and didn't want to damage anything, lose a finger, etc by letting them out; probably over cautious but whatever)...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

The 408 from CHP was/is a roller motor, hydraulic roller. Used this cam kit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-k35-522-8 Prior 351w was hydraulic flat tappet. I bought the Summit conversion distributor gear for use converting the distributor from summit in the same order, thats the on...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

Just the oil. There's bearing material in the oil which means its done; taking the valve cover and distributor out may or may not help with the 'why.' Out of curiousity, if the distributor gear/cam was the ultimate cause of everything... would there be obvious damage to the cam gear? I'd be...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

I'm certainly curious too (i'm an engineer and do failure investigations as my job, so i'd love nothing more than to break it down). Unfortunately dont have a garage currently (and the install used up all my garage credits for the next 5-10 years at friends/family options ). I could pull a valve...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

Some additional detail on the failure and prior issues... Use: The car is parked in a garage away from my apartment. I would drive it roughly once a month to keep it oiled, charged, etc. I used 5w20 conventional oil as instructed, changing oil after 200 miles and 600 miles, and used break-in...

Fox Coast High Performance 408 Throws A Bearing After 10 Months, 900 Miles... How To Proceed...

Last year I replaced a long-running 351w in my 1966 coupe with a Coast High Performance 408. Classic car, but ultimately its an 80s roller motor, and more Fox/SN95s are running around with CHP motors than classics, hence why I'm putting this here (and probably in the classics too, and other...

Oil Pressure Sender Issue On Roller 351

I'm actually a classic owner but the engine is a roller 351/408 stroker, so i figured I'd ask here. I've been having a pretty annoying issue with my oil pressure sender/adaptors. I transitioned from an older style 351w (early 70s), and tried to re-use my old oil pressure setup. Though I'm not...

Dissapointing Results - Have I Missed Something?

Performer intakes are generally worthless on Fords. Performer RPM or Stealth will out perform it at every RPM (even the low ones). Not true on an SBC supposedly, but on SBFs skip the Performer line and go straight to the RPM.

    Engine Options (socal)

not planning on too many passes at irwindale. i'm hoping that by documenting every step, working with them and generally being careful i'll get support down the road. fingers crossed.

    Engine Options (socal)

Decision made I think... http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/643964-buying-blueprint-331-stroker-engine-21.html#post6412137 Cliffs... guy buys Blueprint 408 in roughly Jan 2013. Initially he loves it... makes more power than advertised, but at 2k miles he starts having all...

    Engine Options (socal)

The broken rocker stud... did that happen during the 90 day warranty (Assuming he got a long or short block, not a crate motor)? Did they support it at all? I guess its not that big a problem and it'd probably be easier to just fix himself... but I am curious if I have something go bad in 6...

    Engine Options (socal)

So I think i've narrowed it to two options... The aforementioned Blueprint 408 for $4500, or a Coast High Performance 408 shortblock, with my heads. Both would be roller 408s; the CHP would probably have slightly higher quality parts in many places (they advertise Clevite bearings while BP...

    Engine Options (socal)

Power-wise... I'm looking for 400-450hp. Pretty tame for a 408. Don't want to go much beyond that because it'd be pushing the limits of... everything else. As far as fresh engines... I was looking at the Blueprint 408 stroker long block (here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mll-bpf4084ct)...
