how to remove a 289 flex plate?

I got my 68 289 on a engine stand and I want to break loose the bolts that hold on the flex plate. I tried a 24" breaker bar with no luck. I went out and got an impact wrench, 230 torque, and sockets. Still no luck. Is there a trick to this or am I just weak? I don't want to round...

    motor mount ?

I have 2 shop manuals but I still can't figure out the answer to this question. Where do you unbolt the motor mounts prior to yanking the motor? at the chassis? at the throughbolt that connects the 2 halves of the mount together? or at where the upper mount part bolts to the block?

need help with flexplate-torque converter bolt removal

I tried the 6 point socket, no luck. Went to a 6 pt 14mm socket, to late, to much damage. Went and got a Sears bolt removal tool and it did the trick. :flag: Whoever put those on must have used an impact wrench because one other nut was damaged. thanks for the suggestions. :nice:

need help with flexplate-torque converter bolt removal

I am in the process of pulling my 65 - 289 from my 2+2. Everything was going fine until it came time to remove the bolts that connect the torque converter to the flex plate. The inspection cover has been removed, in fact the car came without one. I went to break loose the first bolt using a...

refurbish or replace stock 1965 radiator?

I getting ready to rebuild the engine bay including pulling the motor and radiator. My first thought was to take the radiator to a shop and have them do their thing while the motor was out. Or does it make more sense to just get a new one?

    timing mark and pointer missing

I guess the use of the word pulley was a bad choice. I did mean the harmonic balancer. I cleaned off the face of the cover below the pump and don't see any marks other than the cast metal fins that stiffen the casting. The balancer has a hub between the block and the larger diameter...

    timing mark and pointer missing

Wanted to check the timing on my 68 289 today. Hooked up a timing light and much to my surprise the timing pointer is missing. The timing marks are so worn on the pulley that all I can see is a cut line in the side of the pulley. :( looking for a plan B on this. Replace the crank...

nope, not me, if you mean in the 65 FB. Its not in drivable condition because the car has been disassembled by the previous owner. I do run around town in a laser red 97 GT convertable with the gidiup florida tag though.

How to read compression test results?

it starts right up, I put new plugs in today. It runs kind of rough, could be that it needs new wires. If youjump on it, wants to stall. The gas is old too. The point gap is right on, but the carb hookup is kind of rigged. I have not had a chance to check the timing.

How to read compression test results?

Just got my first antique 1965 2 +2 mustang with a 289 motor. Did a compression test to see where things are. Low was 130, high was 145, with average of 134.5 over all eight cylinders. Not sure if this is OK, so-so, or acceptable. any thoughts from you restomoders out there? :)
