    MUSCLECAR SHOOTOUT

It did seem the shoot out was cooked. The only suprise was the Mustang came out on top. Usually on such comparisons are slanted against the Fords. What's the attraction of the burnout contest??? Watch NOPI a junker with bad tires can burnout. I just do not get it.

    Adding more HP?

So he will have to replace that T5 with an automatic. Hard to steer and shift with only one hand. :)

    Adding more HP?

It is hard to believe that with the amount of work you have done, you do not have headers. Headman 4 tubes for $90 are recommended in the attached thread http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005310.html The guy that preparedthe list holds/held national records for dragging Mustangs...

    Gas tank barrier?

It is true that under very special circumstances there is a potential for fire. However, IMHO it is way down on the list of safety issues with classic mustangs. Do you have shoulder belts? single resovoir master cylinder? spear-o-matic steering column? good brakes? overly sensitive power...

    what rear end

Many believe the 8" is good to about 400 hp depending on the type of transmission and tires. I'm not questioning this "conventional wisedom". However, Ford upgraded to the 9" with the hipo (271 hp) and all large blocks. Apparently Ford did thought the limit for reliability was somewhere south...

What causes high Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions?

Carbon monoxide results from incomplete combustion of fuel and is emitted directly from vehicle tailpipes. Incomplete combustion is most likely to occur at low air-to-fuel ratios in the engine. These conditions are common during vehicle starting when air supply is restricted ("choked"), when...

'New car feel' - susp. question

By new car feel do you mean: a) feels like a current mustang? Requires extensive modification - there has been about 40 years of technology development since the mustang was designed. b) feels like it did when it left the factory? Can be achieved with stock replacement parts. You get better...

    4v 2v wha?

the v is for venturi or the technical name for "barrels". A 2v is a two barrel carb. All classic mustang heads have 2 valves per cylinder.

    8 inch rear, how strong?

As demonstrated by these threads, people have had a variety of experience with the endurance of the 8". My guideline is that Ford used 8" on 289/302 A and J code engines. For the K code, 271 hp, and bigger blocks they went to the 9". I conclude from this that Ford rates the 8" for more than 220...

    Restore or Not?

You should start with a complete assessment of the condition and your goals. If you have a solid rust free car then you have an excellent platform for either a restomod or stock restoration. While it will never have the value of a more unique factory car, you can have a lot of enjoyment with the...

    5.0 vs 289

If you're engine is in decent shape, then I think you're looking at the wrong part of the car to improve performance (i.e. acceleration) and fuel economy. Nothing improves acceleration cheaper than steeper gears. If you have stock gears then going to 3.55 will really improve performance. Then...

    Searching for a machine shop

The price sounds good and the turn around sounds too good! Are they including rings in the 700 but not pistons? You'll need some if they bore to the next over size. I would want a specific list of what is included in his price and what you will be supplying. Good luck.

I'll say 10.5 seconds but only because I want people to feel good after reading my post. Just use my number and never take the car to the strip (and never never never street race) and you will feel good for a longtime :rlaugh: . If you ignore the advice and take the car to the strip, be...
