What size bolts for headers on 289

I had the same problem with accessing to tighten. "They" make a set of bolts specifially for headers with the mega non-moveable washer that have a hex (allen) head. No socket problems although I did have to grind one of the washers down a little. 5 minutes work. :SNSign:

    Tear-Down for Painting Questions

"jcode68" - :SNSign: THANKS! - You were right on the money. I removed both valances, disconnected the wiring rather than fiddling around with the bulbs (how the hell do you change bulbs in the miscellaneous lights other than tail or head anyway? - What a PITA!) Those were easy money instead of...

    Tear-Down for Painting Questions

Hi Folks- I’m tearing my 68 coupe down for media blasting, and then the rest of prep for paint, and I’m running into some problems – hopefully someone here can give me some pointers: 1) How do I remove the wire/bulb from the socket/lens whatever on the front turn lights and the parking...

    Drip Rail Removal - Conclusion??

I've searched through the threads and it seems as though removal of the drip rails from my 68 coupe will be: a) A serious pain in the butt; b) Structurally unsound if something else is not done to reinforce the roof connections & c) Not worth the effort if I want them to still be on the car...

    Shifting Too Fast

Thanks - when I get within screwdriver distance of my car again, I'll give it a try. :flag:

    Shifting Too Fast

I don't know if there is a shift kit - how would I find that out? And I had to hook up the kickdown lever since it was hanging down loose. (The previous owner wasn't much of a mechanic either evidently although he acted like he was.) I followed the book on it and encountered no problem with that.

    Shifting Too Fast

I'm not much of a mechanic but I'm working on it. My '68 302 coupe has a nice bit of oomph but if I jump on it, the thing shifts from first to second nicely, but is only in second gear for maybe a second or two before it shifts into third. (T4 auto 3-speed.) Is there an adjustment that I can...

    C4 to AOD

Thanks! And I've never done ANY tranny work other than adjust the kick-down lever. Zip. I may have to call in friends to assist. My beer budget is going to go WAY up.

    C4 to AOD

Has anyone here replaced their old C4 with a re-built "1980s vintage Ford AOD"? What should I figure to spend on a re-build like that plus is the replacement in the realm of something an only moderately half a$$ed mechanic  like myself could handle? I've read the excellent article...

    Rocker Adjustment

Hi Guys- I've looked at previous threads and am unable to find my "exact" answers. So can I get a little help? I'm a definite MM mechanic but I'm trying and having to deal with the PO's issues at the same time. Just recently a ticking has started under the right valve cover. So I removed...

    Which Oil to Use??

On a 302 with 10:1 compression (or so the P.O. told me), in the Bay Area of California. Temperatures in the 55° to 75° range. Any help here please? Brand & weight? Thanks!! :flag:

    Power Steering

Okay, almost back in action (or should I say, OUT of traction?) and will get down to the attempted fix per Ozsum2 & JB66. Report won't be "out" for a week but I just wanted to say "thanks" :nice: and that no ignoring was going on. Minor but regular medical maintenance got in the way. :flag:

    Power Steering

Quote: exactly, and turning easier to the right than to the left would mean your control valve needs adjustment and your ball stud in the drag link should prolly be replaced. Oh-oh! Where is my control valve and where/what is the drag link?

    Power Steering

Copy that! When da Boss brings it home, I'll tighten it up.... and report results thereafter. Thanks
