Car is popping/backfiring on new H/C/I

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, would my car even start if the distributor was put in wrong 180 degrees? I guess I am going to start with changing the plugs and wires.....

Car is popping/backfiring on new H/C/I

Trigger, I am about 97% sure the distributor is in right. I made sure I marked everything....rotor, dist, and balancer on motor to be sure, but anything is possible. Would it even start though if it was 180 degrees off? I tried to double check all the vac. lines, but once again, by no means...

Car is popping/backfiring on new H/C/I

I just finished my new engine/tranny install last night. I bought the whole engine/tranny with most the mods from a kid who had it on a show car and then wrecked it. There is no damage that I could see. He had a blower on it too, but it is not on there now. It has all the mods in my sig...

    Heater core nightmare

V8only, that is an excellent write-up. I will be changing my heater core soon (or later), and will definitely use this advice. Thanks

Considering Long Tube headers...what brands? Need opinion...

89Sleeper, I have wondered about that before, the "no mods...really". I can't remeber what thread, but if I remember right, something made me believe that Highbredcloud is being sneaky :) , but I could be wrong. Highbredcloud, is that sig for real or is it more like "cough cough, uhh...no...

Are 225 Nitto DR's too small???

 Civic, that's hilarious. But seriuosly, I know it is a small tire size, but I have 225's on right now all the way around. I ran 2.0x's 60ft's several times on these as well, so figured with the DR's it wouldn't be that far to drop a couple tenths. Glad I could brighten you guys day...

Are 225 Nitto DR's too small???

I had the option in the past to get a good deal on nitto DR's 225/50/16. Would this be too small, or would it still hook up about as good as 245 DR's. Has anyone used this size at the track before, how were they? I know they will obviously be better than street tires, but when my car is done...

Rebuild bottom end end vs. save $$$

I wasn't planning on building up my engine right now, I just decided to after I blew a head gasket. I figured I don't want to tear it all down now, replace a gasket, and then tear it down when I'm ready to do the H/C/I. I have absolutely not intentions of turbo, nitrous, or s/c. I know to do...

Rebuild bottom end end vs. save $$$

1992blkGT, you have the exact combo I would like the to, and I mean everything. How do you like it so far, do you burn any oil, have you taken it to the track, any major problems? Thanks for the input, it's definitely taken into consideration.

Rebuild bottom end end vs. save $$$

Rebuild bottom end vs. save $$$ My car has 130,000 and I am going to do a complete H/C/I install soon. I was wondering how many people have done this swap on high mileage cars without rebuilding the bottom end. My car uses very little oil, probably about a quart between every oil change. I...

Possible top end rebuild...all suggestions welcome please!

Actually TMoss, I meant to say I heard great things about your ported intakes, but I said "heads" instead. Sorry, my brain was going a million miles a minute with everything on my mind and my fingers couldn't keep up... :D

Possible top end rebuild...all suggestions welcome please!

Thanks guys, as always you are very helpful. I think I am just going to go all out and do H/C/I, AFPR, timing chain, and bigger throttle body for now. Depending on how much this tallies up to (I know it isn't going to be cheap :( ), I will probably 24#ers, and possibly headers and subframes...

Does anyone have any idea how much valve jobs run? $225 just seems kinda high!

Possible top end rebuild...all suggestions welcome please!

Also, what is a ballpark estimate of how much a valve job will cost? I called a machine shop and he said he does a 45 one (not sure what this is, but he said it is better for flow than a 3-angle) including seats and new seals I think, for about $225. Does this sound right?

Possible top end rebuild...all suggestions welcome please!

Sorry it took so long to reply Daggar.....my car is a 89 GT 5-speed. I am working on putting a sig at the bottom right now. Thanks for the input, I think I am going to go ahead and get a valve job along with the ported lower intake.

Possible top end rebuild...all suggestions welcome please!

I have tried to research exactly what to do but couldn't find a thread that is exactly what I'm looking for. Here it is, I recently blew a head gasket (I think so anyway, haven't torn down yet...but is leaking radiator fluid from the back of the engine by the heads when running). Anyway, I'm...

Is 18 degrees advanced too much timing?

I just adjusted it to 18 yesterday, so I haven't driven enough to get really warm to see if it pings or runs different. I guess I will change it back to about 15 or 16, I just thought it might give it just a little more oomph, you konw how it is......always trying for those extra few ponies...

Is 18 degrees advanced too much timing?

I had it at 15 and it ran fine, so I decided to bump it to 18 just for the heck of it. It seems to run great, no pinging, and I use 93 octane. I guess what I'm wondering is if it is okay to run it this high if the car is showing no negative affects. It's hard to tell if there is a lot of...
