It's actually the rad. on my fiance's T-bird, so no way I'm dropping ash for a new rad. on a non-performance oriented vehicle. Now if it were MINE, damn skippy I woud spring for a new one :)

Should there be ANY vertical play in the waterpump shaft??

ahhh, yes. Well, yesterday, i replaced the pump, which was so severly stuck on the block that BOTH pry tabs broke off in the removal attempt. Then, trying to break it loose with a hammer, I managed to graze the rad. just enough to put a pinhole in t coolant passage, so now I have to replace...

    Opinions on radiator repair??

For a pinhole (that's obviosly big enough to leak through, do you guys recommend full replacement, or that radiator repai in a bottle stuff, or what? It happened while trying to hammer off the old water pump, the ball-peen end tapped the fins, barely enough to bend the fins, but enough to...

Should there be ANY vertical play in the waterpump shaft??

I don't think so... On the 4.6, the lower hose goes into the block. The water pump has no hoses going into or out of it, it just attaches to the block.

Should there be ANY vertical play in the waterpump shaft??

well, I just ran to Auto zone and took a look at the replacement pump. there is absolutely NO play in the shaft, it apears to make the play in mine laughable. Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject are still welcomed, though, especially on the smoke/steam and burnt rubber smell... Thanks- J

Should there be ANY vertical play in the waterpump shaft??

Hey guys, I posted this in the 4.6L forum, too, as my fiance has a 4.6 t-bird, and I think the water pump's bad. However, you guys know me here and I know you're good for a helping hand, so I figured I'd ask you guys too, I just wasn't sure if the water pumps for our two cars have different or...

Should there be ANY vertical play in the waterpump shaft??

Hey guys, I've never been in the 4.6 section (mine's a fox), but my fiance has a 4.6 t-bird, and I think the water pump's bad. In her manual, it says to check for up-and-down play in the pulley/pump shaft, or squealing. I have heard it squeal once in the recent past, only on start-up. Tonight...

    Mr. Gasket t-stat

Ok, I lied. it reached low 190's after initial warm-up and a 4 minute drive, then settled back to 180*... I still dig it :)

    Mr. Gasket t-stat

Not a tech question, but rather a statement. This has been said before, and I'd like to reiterate the fact. Mr. Gasket T-stats are the only way to go! Alot of you have chimed in in the past regarding my temp/ heating questions, and might remember a few occasions where my car would overheat...

Help diagnose overheating issues, could be a simple solution...

your factory gauge is probably bad [inaccurate]; your heater core may be plugged/dirty and need to be backflushed. Your stat may be stuck open, and not allowing the coolant to reach operating temps quickly...

    which exhuast modification easier?

I "passed" last year w/o cats... and the sniffer was in the pipes and everything. Granted, a buddy of mine was working the machine, but somehow...it passed! I have to see if I can find out where he's working now....

    which exhuast modification easier?

well, I suppose that's a good thing then... Not sure if I want to stick it out and wait to see if I'll be the first one in my area to take the 2,500 hit or pony up and drop $400 on a catted H pipe...
