    compressed shock update

All the Konis that I know of are just normal hydraulic. The only reason that other manufacturer's 'gas charge' their shocks is to prevent oil 'frothing', Koni's superior design doesn't require it. (No true damper should provide a spring component also) The 'gas charge' is actually a gas...

    radical restomod irs 66

American LHD to RHD conversions are fairly common here, the local authorities picked up on it years ago and make sure all the changes are structurally sound before allowing them on the road. Queensland currently has it a bit easier than the southern states, once a car is registered up here...

Are the engineer's local? Did you have any inspections before final assembly or where the photos enough for approval? Sorry for all the q's , just that I'm going to be going through this soon...hopefully :D Can't wait until mine's ready for 'cruisin....

    Suspension and Steering

If the front end's bad then the rear's probably pretty sad too. Get a kit that does the lot, shocks and springs also, no point fixing up the front if the rear's bouncing all over the place.

Hi Marshall, Looking good!! Is that registered in Qld? If so, what did you have to go through to get it registered?

Rear end is making a strange popping noise when cornering.

Had a V6 Capri once that the diff started to make the noise you describe. When cornering the sun gears are rotating relative to the housing, mine had a few teeth missing here and there, the popping sound was the remaining teeth jumping. If your problem is the same, time for a new diff... and...

    '65-'66 rear quarter extension ?

I just bolted mine back on today ('65), I can't recall there being any gaskets there when they came off. To put them back on, I ran some Sikaflex around the holes and just used bolts and large washers instead of the original studs. Just looking at the finished product I really should have...

Stumble under light load: any ignition experts out there?

Don't know about the Demon carbs, but i've experienced similar problems with Webbers/Dellortos. The problem could be in the jetting between the idle and the power circuits. If you can borrow another carby for it, try it on - process of elimination... Good luck Edit:- I think if it were...

    Wow

hmm not good... For someone who gets to work at 9:00 but doesn't wake up until 10:00 the remaining posts had me a bit confused for a while..... Hope the techs can resurrect it (usually not impossible but most of the time economically improbable...) Edit: Just checked, the SN65 thread...

    Policy Change

 ???? Why are we then affronted with hyperlinked pop-up ads in our general topic threads nowdays? Not complaining....just curious......

    draining brake lines?

Don't have to drain the lines as the master cylinder should be the highest point in the lines anyway, however it is a wise move to flush the lines and install new fluid every couple of years anyway. This is because brake fluid is very hygroscopic (attracts water really well) and rubber brake...

    *(&*&%#(#@ (don't do this!)

I hate it when things like that happen..... Just as an aside, why prime the system anyway? If the engine is freshly rebuilt, it will be full of assembly lube, won't priming the system just wash this stuff into the sump? By the time you get the engine ready to start, the oil pressure will be...

    Driveline angle.

The correct engine/gearbox angle is 4 degrees, tha same angle that will make the carby pad on the engine dead level. I made up a simple plumb-bob to check the engine angle when i fabbed up the gearbox mounts for my '65 (built to accomodate a Tremec, Toploader or C4 whichever I decide to go...

Who has done a Jag IRS in their classic 'stang?

Email it to me Marshall, I think I can make it work. (I usually upload pics to my own website and paste a link to it)

Why did Ford build 2 different 351 engines?

Ford Australia dropped the 'Cleveland' (and all V8's!) in the XE Falcon (ESP Ghia) in about '82, although by then the beast was running only 8.9:1 comp to try and meet emissions on the available fuel, pretty sad really. The hidden treasures were the XA Falcons ordered with the 'Regular...

Who has done a Jag IRS in their classic 'stang?

I think Marshall is doing this to his very modified 'vert. I don't think he's posted in a while, the last time I heard from him he was very busy. Unfortunately I don't know the ins and outs of this conversion, but I know of a 1000hp twin turbo'd Jag doing some hillclimbs here in Qld so I'm sure...

    HPX Ignition

Thanks for that, I'll check them out. I'm keen to add a modern touch to the old 302. I'm kind of used to a motor that you get in, turn the key and off it goes! (as well as not draining the bank balance with excess fuel usage)

    HPX Ignition

I was thinking along the lines of doing that also, just with central fuel injection, not multipoint. Do you know how the ignition module interacts with the EFI?

T-5 vs. Toploader 4 spd - how to choose

If it's treated nicely, a T5 will perform admirably, hammer it and it will explode, usually 3rd gear. It's a design problem which can be fixed with $$. Apparently, as the alloy casing heats it expands a lot, losing the preload on something inside - I don't know exactly what, but it ain't good! I...
