2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

I've found a real quick test to check what is wrong: With the engine at temperature and the engine running, turn the A/C on. This will test the A/C circuit, fan motor, and fan relay. If it turns on, all of that is in working order. Next step is to disconnect the 1 wire coming off the fan switch...

    Which trans do i have??

It does. I was looking for a comparison between the T5 and the ET because I am really up in the air about which one to put in my capri. I was always told that the ET was hard shifting and tough to find gears, but that was always from people that love the T5. You've told me otherwise and I would...

    Which trans do i have??

Glad I could help. How does that transmission shift for you? Do you like it? I'd like to get a few reviews of how they work before I tear my automatic out and put one in the capri. I've had a few offers for 4 speeds, but if the price is right, I could maybe use a spare.

    Which trans do i have??

It would be an ET transmission. It was used since 1974 (origonally in the Pinto/Bobcat). It is a German made transmission with no overdrive. 4th is 1:1. It has no relation to the T5 of the later 2.3L and 2.3T cars. Interesting this would come up as I am trying to track one down right now. The...

    4 speed transmission dilemma.

Well, I'd like to keep my Capri as close to origonal as it would be. Also, I really don't need overdrive since I won't be taking it more than 20 miles from home here on trips (this area is very suburban so going over 65 is quite a rarity). I find the old german 4 speeds to be kind of unique and...

    4 speed transmission dilemma.

Ok, just bought a rebuilt 2.3L, roller cam, 4 speed manual, intake, carb, manifolds, ignition system for 200 bucks. It was all out of a scrapped 77 Pinto (except the extra roller cam). I figured that the transmission would fit into my capri (it's the standard ET type 4 speed) but it does not...

    Carb on Mustang/Others 2.3L turbo

Check with Weber. They make kits for most older vehicles. If you call them, they will hook you up with the right carburetor and even calibrate it to your needs.

    more convert problems

Sounds like you found the problem. A valve that is not seating will cause all the problems you are having. Replace at least that valve (if not all of them just to be safe) and have the head checked for damage. Once you've got everything back together, it should run like new.

    What gears?

There is a way to calculate it out, but I have no idea how to do it. What I do know is that my 88 automatic pulls about 2000rpms at 55mph in overdrive with the converter clutch locked. Since the speeds around here are slow and it's a fairly built-up area, I've probably only ever done 75 in the...

    What gears?

Rear gears should be 3.73 for your automatic. My 88 auto has them. 4.10s may be a bit much, but it depends how much you're worried about fuel economy.

    Carb on Mustang/Others 2.3L turbo

Should be a Motorcraft 5200. It goes by many names as it has a strange history. It was a Weber design origonally used by Holley as their 5200 or 5210. Ford adapted it to their specifications for use on their engines and it became the Motorcraft 5200. So, really it can be called a Holley/Weber...

    I am stumped....

Nope. I probably shouldn't have described it as "rectangular" as both styles of ignition modules are rectangular. Anyway, that one is for the distributor mounted non-DIS type. Since you have coil packs and no distributor, you would use: NAPA # MPE TP503SB or ECH TP503 or Advance Auto...

    I am stumped....

I think on your 92, it would be screwed to the intake. Not 100% sure as I'm not as familiar with the 8 plug DIS setup as the others. It should be a grey rectangular thingy with a bunch of wires coming out of it.

    I am stumped....

Ignition modules are easy to replace. Even headgaskets aren't that bad (I just did mine on the 86). I agree, invest in some tools, get some manuals and do it yourself. Garages are horrendusly overpriced anymore.

    need some help please

Exactly! When replacing the throttle position sensor, just remember that you have to set the voltage since it is adjustable. I forget how to do it, but I can look up directions if you need them. I think you set the voltage to .8v at closed throttle.

Code 14 - Ignition profile pickup erratic?

I was under the impression that the heat sink grease was dielectric grease (in fact that is what some of my manuals say it is) but it would probably be a better idea to go and get some stuff that is actually labeled as heat sink grease. Also, doesn't the TFI handle the PIP signal from the hall...

Code 14 - Ignition profile pickup erratic?

Sounds like a TFI module. They aren't known for superb reliability. Go to the junkyard and snag a few and see if any of them make a difference. Be sure to slather the backside of it with TONS of dielectric grease before installation!

    I am stumped....

The tachometer issue could be a slowly failing ignition module. That's pretty much the only thing that would cause that other than the tachometer itself failing- which is rare. As for headlights, you can buff and polish the factory ones or you can get a set of reproduction lights that look just...

I'd maybe try and find a junkyard car similar to yours and see if you can scrounge a computer out of it and just try it for fun. Also, have you done a compression check on the cylinders? Could have a leaking head gasket. Once you do get it running again, with all the work you've done to it, it...

I had to yell at him on another post because of his ignorance towards other people's vehicles and concerns. Anyway, have you made any progress on the engine?
