    Yeah, that's what scared me from buying a nice 88 5.0 vert with AOD before. I was just hoping I had been wrong with my estimates.     Front occupants should be somewhat protected by the re-enforced windshield in a rollover. Seems like the Autopower rollbar will make the back seat pretty unsafe in any kind of non-rollover collision. I've said this before but it's too bad Ford doesn't make popup rollbars an option--I think...

    Yeah, not retro so much as AFTER 30 YEARS DETROIT (Ford and DC, anyway) IS FINALLY GETTING BACK ON TRACK. Calling the 05 Mustang retro is like calling the BMW 3 series retro cause there are some cues that go back to the 2002/1600.

    What colors are looking best on the 05's?

    Strangely, the white looks really good (I usually HATE white on new cars--only like it on 60s and older cars with chrome). I saw a white 05 GT with chrome TTIIs and it looked perfect. I also like the green, silver, gray and of course black.

    Obviously, the GT is going to sound great. And it shouldn't be hard to extrapolate how the GT would handle if you drove a V6. Driving a V6 will answer some of the bigger questions with regard to build quality, layout, etc.

    I haven't seen anything suggesting that the 05 Mustang vert has a reinforced windshield but my guess is that it does. It does not have the little popup rollbars, though. I've heard several reports of people walking away after rolling BMW 3-series verts (reinforced windshield and popup rollbars)...

    Do they usually do crash tests on convertible versions of cars that are available as hardtops? I think the side airbags are the same on the vert as they are on the coupe.

    In general the older the car the more fun the board. New Mustangs are an exception cause even new they are pretty cheap and they're fast and easy enough to work on that they attract gearheads.
