    Interior paint question

That looks like Rainbow alright. Two more coats -- 3 cans -- and you can call it good.:rlaugh: Oh, and about the color matching -- that was another bit of fun I had with Rainbow and my '65 white-with-black-appointments, that every can of the Rainbow white had a slightly different tint. The...

    RE: engine stand

I would avoid the trike one. When you flip your engine over to upside down, with iron heads anyway, it gets a little hard to control. I would expect the trike to tip over if you're not careful. The standard four wheeler -- number 2 in your menu -- is available at Kragen's for $40. I got mine...

    Interior paint question

Does this can of interior paint have the word "Rainbow" on it? I used this stuff and it's junk. Just throw it away. I used another brand, called "TrimTech," that seems to work better. I used very little of it, so I can't say for sure. I got it from Paul at Mustang Magic in Fremont California.

How to mount an Edelbrock Cable Plate Kit?

Here are some pix of the Edelbrock setup on my '70 Cougar's 351 Cleveland with FMX: This one shows the "Ford AT" adapter that Edelbrock sells. It also shows the kickdown lever extender that I made out of "L" shaped aluminum bar stock from the hardware store. I trimmed one leg of th L almost...

How to mount an Edelbrock Cable Plate Kit?

It looks to me like the PO has the right idea. I wonder if that home made lever extender doesn't rotate, though. For my '70 351C/FMX I made my own extender out of aluminum L-bar and I found it rotated. So I drilled a small second hole -- like 1/8" -- through the kickdown lever and the...

    Aftermarket T5 shifters in classics

I've got an MGW in my '65 fb. It's got the new-ish gold handle. You can sorta see it in this pic: Here's a pic from the MGW web site: I'm 5' 10" (barely) and I push the seat all the way back. I can make the third gear shift no problem. The fifth gear shift, my shoulder comes off...

    Aftermarket T5 shifters in classics

The tranny consists of an input shaft with a gear that's in constant mesh with a counter shaft, aka gear cluster. The gears on this counter shaft are press-fit to the shaft and they are in constant mesh with the gears on the output shaft. Each gear on the output shaft spins freely until it is...

    opinion on engine mods

Do not use a Demon carb on a 289. You will get incurable overrich idle, which will wash down your cylinder walls and pollute your oil and stands a very good chance to ruin your engine. IIRC, Dodgestang had this issue and received and installed a crutch kit from BG that did not help. I did not...

I agree. It gets better with age. The latest has Mike saying that "in-the-day" the majority of Ford guys "ran low 13's and sometimes broke into the 12's." I like it. Btw, the real Mike the Bike called, and he wants his name back.

That's great news. Hope it works out. You're about to find out, though, that no boss can push you as hard as you will push yourself.

I would much prefer having the gas tank sitting in my lap, as was done with the Corvair. Wouldn't you? Your version of the Pinto story is an urban myth. It's true that it was a cost/benefit calculation which led to the design of the Pinto, but like all engineering decisions it was based on...

I always think this kind of thing must strike the young-uns as verrrry strange: old geezers arguing over who ruled the roost in this category or that, forty five freakin years ago! I mean, I had this same conversation in 7th grade, but that was in 1966!. OK, so you want to talk history...

    T5 swap - specific questions...

I'm pretty sure that paragraph 1 is mistaken. Maybe a Tremec 3550 will bolt onto an old school Z-bar style bell, but the T5 has a different bolt pattern. Also, I had to cut a notch into the shifter opening in the transmission hump to clear the adjusting screw on my MGW shifter that I am...

    T5 swap - specific questions...

I'm not sure. Maybe $10? You want the cross-member and the bearing retainer? I would be very pleased to send these on to a new home. I'm cleaning out my garage of nine years of take-offs and other car project detritus and I hate to throw anything away. Use my email one 80 out at hotmai dot...

    T5 swap - specific questions...

    1) What is essential in a rebuilt/new T5 that will help it withstand a 400 hp/400 tq 351w in a 3200 lb car with standard tires? Skip the high dollar G-force and whatnot and go with a used T5 and see if you break it. If you do, then go G-force. If you don't, then drive and smile. I...

Threads Popped Out Of The Block; YIKES!!

I think with a windage tray, the "studs" are actually the bolts, with an extra bit of threaded shaft on top of the bolt for the tray to mount on. So they should be torqued to the main bearing spec. If that's true, it would seem to negate the other criticism that studs should have a different...

In an old issue of Vintage Motorsport magazine I came across this "as told by Sam Posey" sidebar. Posey might have been the only driver in the '69 Trans Am season to have driven both a Penske Z/28 and a Shelby American Boss 302. Here's Posey's take on the two cars: "In 1969, Ford was...

    Versailles rear a bolt-in for a '65?

From a Craigslist ad: "1975-1979 Lincoln Versailles were based on the Ford Granada, which, in turn, bolt directly into Mustangs. This means that the rear leaf spacing is identical on these cars." Is this true, for a '65?
