Looking At A Capri After Fox Is Totalled....

Long story short, my 90 two tone GT is totalled from someone hitting me head on. It's bad but fixable, most likely needing major frame work on both sides. It looks like I'll be taking the money from insurance from it. At the same time this happens, I come upon an 85 Capri for sale locally...

    Check Engine light ???

Any of the chain auto stores will put it on the scanner and pull codes for you. The device they use is only about 20 bucks or so and will come in handy for any future codes.

    spare tire

Definately not. The spare barely has enough breathing room, I couldn't see a full size fitting anywhere near close.

The white gear will get the speedo semi-close with 3.73 or 4:10's.

    Speedometer gear help!!

The 23 tooth you have will fit but not like it's supposed to. Never heard of one that didn't fit at all like your describing.

    Speedometer gear help!!

Ok then, in your case with the 89, a red 21 tooth should do the job and also fit correctly.

    Speedometer gear help!!

This is a common problem when 3.73's are installed in a 90+ car which I'm assuming is what you have. The gear you've linked is the gear most people THINK will work with 3.73's but it actually doesn't. It is actually a factory gear for a Jeep but in the past few years it has been marketed for...

    New Fast and Furious

Pretty good movie. I liked how it really had a good storyline along with alot better selection of cars than the previous movies. Lots of American muscle in this one. I didn't consider this one to be ricer or cheesy like the second and third one.

    Gear Break In Period

White will work, but expect your speedo to become bouncy again in the future when the teeth on it bust off. I've read about guys' who simply keep putting white gears in instead of changing the driven gear. 20 bucks every year or so to keep your speedo correct and steady.....

    Gear Break In Period

With the 1990 and up's, the white gear will be close but it will only last temporarily. Mine got chewed up after a little over a year. To completely fix the speedo and make it correct, you'll have to swap out the transmission tailshaft "driven" gear along with a speedo drive gear. The white...

Stickers, . . .Yay or Ghey?

How times have changed. It used to be cool to have a windshield banner or the running horse on the hatch window, now the trend is stickers in the engine bay and under the hood?? I'm old school and have the horse and a Motorsport winshield decal. I guess I'm the ghey.:rlaugh: Different...

    my $900 GT

Yep, 4 grand for that car on a local dealer lot. Maybe 3500 if someone was selling it privately. I personally would love to have a four eye vert.

    my $900 GT

You practically stole that car for $900. Around my area, that car would've fetched about 4 grand. Nice score.

    AGED TIRE WARNING !!!

I've never bought new tires in 10 years of driving and owning several vehicles. The used tire shelf at the local shop charges 10 bucks a tire so that's what I've always bought for many years.

Is it safe to use a 170 or 200 amp alternator?

I don't see why it wouldn't be safe. I currently run a 170 amp after using a 130 for years. I didn't need the extra amperage but it's nice. I've got a stereo and underdrives and it's plenty for me so I'd recommend it for you also.

    Steel Underdrive pulleys vs aluminum?

I couldn't have said it better myself. From experience, I've ran both only noticed one thing. The aluminum's wear much faster than the steel's, mainly the water pump pulley. It wore very thin over time and caused me to ditch the whole set in exchange for steel's.
