Any issues with reprogramming the computer?

I just installed a custom tune from Paul's High Performance using an SCT XCalibratro 2. It went in just fine by following the prompts on the little screen. I also have a CAI and underdrives (that's all). And I have an auto. The tune did wonders. Great throttle response, very noticeable...

    Axle-back, any gain?

I think the gain is mostly in sound, but folks are still saying they dyno'ed such and such an axle-back and got 30 hp and 25 tq. Maybe I'm just skeptical, but I find it hard to believe.

    Axle-back, any gain?

I know you might be able to get a different sound, but are there any proven gains from any of the axle-backs? MM&FF ran a test a while back that didn't show anything much better than the OEM mufflers. But, just about every manufacturer claims gains of anywhere from 8-20 HP. Doesn't make sense.

Does anyone have any input on this CAI

Can't say for sure, since I do have the afe piece, but I also liked the Steeda or Ford Racing (made by Steeda) CAI with an SCT tuner as a package. Money needs to be no object though because either combo will cost you about $700.

Does anyone have any input on this CAI

05Canuck - All I can say is, great minds run in similar circles. My '05 is also silver, a 'vert, and has a trunk insert from Silverhorse racing. It looks like you have something similar on your trunk lid. And, yes the tuner is going to make a world of difference for you.

Does anyone have any input on this CAI

I have that AFE CAI kit. It works well without a tune and no codes thrown. I think the reason is that the tube where the MAF probe sits is the same diameter as stock, and the MAF sits in the same place. The intake tube is plastic, which is good. The filter is surrounded by metal. I don't...

    sct or predator

Recent convert to SCT. Like it a lot. It's easy to use. Especially if you ignore the instructions. Worth the money.

    Tail Light Mod

Nice. You should get one of those trunk covers from Silverhorse Racing. Also very similar to the '70 Mach 1. I've got one, and its a nice piece. They have pictures on their website.

    SCT X-Calibrator 2 Question

Thanks Cat. So just go to Custom Tune (after popping those fuses), find the tune that Paul's has in there and 'Select'. That right? You can guess that I'm not a computer genius :)

    SCT X-Calibrator 2 Question

Just received the X-Calibrator, but I don't understand the instructions. They say to "disconnect the fuel pump and electric fan fuses" and this lets you into the Custom Tune mode. The unit has already been set up by Paul's High Performance. Do I still go through these steps to get their tune...

Polished Valve covers for the GT?

I think you're right Zoomer. I actually used a little Flitz polish on one area of mine and the originals would probably just polish up pretty good. But, powedercoating or ceramic coating should look good. The problem is getting them off. There's a lot of spaghetti connected in and around the...

    Safe Wheel Polish Suggestions

06 Redfire, I just had a look at my glovebox. Both the lock and the catch have screws that may need either tightening or a little adjustment. That may quiet your noise.

Polished Valve covers for the GT?

The FRPP catalog says they are available. They're expensive, but not a whole lot more than what BBK was charging for the SN-95 cam covers. I think the regular ones were about $250 and the chrome-look ones were like $350 a pair. They're on my list.

    Are your gauges noisy?

Can't say as I've ever heard it, but could it be the ventilation blower? I think the thing is always on, even if you turn the HVAC control to off, to provide positive ventilation for the car. Could be it's just spinning down.

    Steeda Pulleys

I agree. Just put them in my GT. No problem. It's hard to tell a 5-8 HP change, but I think they did some good.

    windage tray

Yes, there is one in there. Ford did a lot of good things to this engine that have saved us time and money.

    CAI sound?

You will get more noise with a CAI. I just put in one from AFE and to my ears it sounds good. The factory airbox is designed to minimize noise.

New Car, Same Tired Questions---Got $1500, What Should I Buy?

All good advice. I agree with most all of what was said, but I'm not so sure about axle backs. That recent test in MM&FF showed there really wasn't much gain with any of them over the stock exhaust. If you want a different sound, now that's another story.

    BBK Cold Air Kit?

I just put in an AFE CAI (www.afefilters.com) and it seems to work pretty well. Haven't had in on a dyno, but the car is definitely snappier. Didn't have to reflash the computer. In fact, I got the kit at my friendly Ford dealer's parts dept. Also have had the car serviced there...no...
