    Took a ride in a ~500hp evo 9!!

I've owned two modded Mitsus before my Stang, a 97 GS-T Spyder and 91 Galant VR-4. Both run the same 4g63 engine and with basic mods they pull like mad when the turbo boosts. That, and AWD is SOOO fun to drive in all weather conditions. I'm really enjoying my Stang, but if I had the...

Tool needed for Trick Flow upper intake

Ahh, and the 12 point socket set I bought only goes down to 3/8". Doh. Thanks for checking.

Tool needed for Trick Flow upper intake

I'm tearing down the top half of the engine and was quickly stopped by the upper intake. I bought this car with the Trick Flow Street Burner intake already on it. There are two 12 point 3/8" bolts in the center that I can't seem to find a way to get at. Standard 12 point sockets are too fat...

Distributor won't install all the way??

I ran into the same exact issue with a Melling HV pump and included driveshaft. The retainer is pressed up the shaft and is conical with concave side upwards. Tapping it down is likely to flip it concave downwards and decrease its effectiveness to retain the shaft. I tried tapping it down...

    Headlight screws/clips/ugh

I'm confused how this can't be fixed with either a new headlight bracket or housing, depending on what screw you're talking about.

    Headlight screws/clips/ugh

Do you have aftermarket headlight housings? OEM will have Ford molded into the back side. Aftermarket reproductions have a couple rubber vent tubes on the back. I found that the aftermarkets have more slack in the fitment after you snap the clips on. I haven't found a solution to this. I'm...

Paint experts...glass hoods = paint chips?

I just installed a new Cervini cowl hood and had a discussion with my body shop about the prep work. He said that fiberglass panels must be baked multiple times for the best quality. The recommendation to bake before prep, and again after paint is a bare minimum. The recommendation I got is...

What's your engine setup? Modifications to oil pump, pickup, or pan?

    Removing oil pan help

For the archives, I was able to complete the oil pump job with only dropping the oil pan against the crossmember. Jacking up the engine and lowering the steering rack was enough room to drop the stock pan. There's enough room to get the two pump bolts and pickup mounting nut, if you don't mind...

How to prime new oil pump?

I found out what the problem was. You'll never believe it's possible to mount the pump and have the driveshaft completely miss the distributor hole. As a result, I was never turning the pump. The resistance I felt was the priming tool rubbing around whatever was in its path...

How to prime new oil pump?

I'm using an electric drill and it is working pretty hard to get going. I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge sitting in the engine bay and the needle hasn't registered at all during the priming. The engine is well broken in, so I don't suspect any plugs had popped out. Before install, I...

How to prime new oil pump?

I just installed a new high volume Melling oil pump and am now trying to prime it. I prefilled the oil pump outlet with some oil before bolting it up. I'm running a drill with a priming tool through the distributor hole and as far as I can tell, it's turning the pump (ccw). But, a mechanical...

    Removing oil pan help

You're missing the point in the explanation. The oil pressure wanders between low to normal both at idle and cruising. At one point the needle on the stock gauge dipped to just above the red for a little while while cruising at highway speeds ~2.5k rpm, and then wandered back up. I'm guessing...

    Removing oil pan help

I'll find out for sure if the pump was really the root cause later tonight when the oil pan gasket comes in at NAPA. FYI, this post details my oil pressure symptoms before deciding to replace the oil pump. If I may say, I'm glad I switched to a Mustang as a project car because parts are pretty...

    Removing oil pan help

Wow, that is a very detailed writeup. Thanks! On the topic of high volume pump, I went with a standard volume Melling pump. Sounds like some have had issues with a high volume draining a stock oil pan and starving the engine at times. I think I would be happier with pulling the engine in a...

    Removing oil pan help

I'm digging into the engine to replace the oil pump after seeing my pressure dropping. So, following tips from the Haynes manual and whatever else I've read, I jacked up the engine close to a foot. I was able to stick a short 2x4 block under the engine mounts to hold it up. The oil pan is...

    Warranty Jeopardy with Mods?

My separate experiences with Mitsubishi and Dodge dealers says service techs will flex their "not covered under warranty" power wherever convenient. Things like cat-backs are one thing. Intake swaps, tune, or anything that can change engine reliability will put you in a gray area. They can...

    T5 shifting problems, 2nd to 3rd

While at a stop, you can test clutch disengagement by attempting reverse before 1st. If it wants to grind, you either need to press harder on the clutch pedal or adjust the cable. If it's a synchro, you will probably notice it's more pronounced while the engine/trans is still cold and it's...

Help 89 5.0 Leaking Manual Transmission Fluid.

Supposedly, standard RTV is not rated for gear oil. I guess that depends on what you run in your trans and what you believe. Haven't had issues with what I used after 40k miles on rebuild of a Mitsu AWD trans. Factory service manual called for this type of RTV.
