    5 speed swap questions?

I just bought a 91 that was a automatic and it has been converted to a 5 spd. I know the computer wasnt changed but I am still missing the cable that connects the 5 speed to the speedo and such. The only other problem I have is the guy didnt put both springs on the clutch quadrant so I have to...

help with 5 lug conversion and more

Insifficent data to complete post as requested. Im assuming the late model Cougar 5 lug rear is a Fox body rear like out of a XR7 turbo which IIRC is same as Turbo coupe rear. The main problem is we dont know the offset of the rims in question.

    Radiator Swap

Is your car a later model with a electric fan? Is it a automatic or manual? Be sure to catch the radiator fluid. If the fluid is discolored or rusty looking it is best to backflush the system with hte old radiator still in then swap to the new radiator afterwards. This avoids getting all...

    80 6 cyl

I currently have a 1980 Mustang Ghia hatchback with a 3.3L and a 1981 no a/c Mustang T-top coupe with a 3.3L I6. I think the I6 cars are a great treasure and can be built up into very nice running street performers. I dont remember if we are allowed to post links to other sites so I will PM you...

    86 to 89 nose swap

As mentioned the belt moldings dont match so that will look different the bumper and the mounts. IIRC you can use the 93 Cobra fender extensions to match the earlier fenders. I remember reading that somewhere. 87 has a similar bumper mounting setup but different mounts so you need a 1"...

Anyone ever converted a Turbo Coupe rear to 5 lug?

I am getting a 88 Turbo Coupe 3.73 geared disc brake rear and I need to know if anyone has ever converted one to 5 lug. Im thinking the axles would be easy but no idea where the rotors would come from. Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheapest way for 5-lugs?

Please measure the stock rotors on the 80 Notch. I dont think they will be 10" which means you cant run the 10" Ranger rotors. You will need to upgrade to later model 10" front brake spindles before you can run the Ranger 10" 5 lug rotor swap. IIRC any 2.3L Mustang 1985-1993 will have the 10"...

    1979 Turbo Cobra

How much horsepower and torque can a fuel injected turbo 2.3L handle? The mods I had planned with the 79 Mustang carb turbo I had estimated would put me in the 225-250 RWHP range. The drawback is I see carb turbos limited to about 16lbs of boost with the stock setup. The EFI guys have more...

    Cheapest way for 5-lugs?

If your 80 notch is a 2.3L, 2.8L, or 3.3L car it will more than likely have the 9" front brakes and you might as well upgrade to 11" V8 spindles, rotors, and calipers. I used 89 LX spindles, 83-84 Lincoln Town Car 5 lug rotors and Lincoln 70mm calipers. In the rear I have a Lincoln 8.8" disc...

    1979 Turbo Cobra

As to your original question, yes it has forged pistons. IIRC the carb is a Holley 5200, basically a Weber 32/36 DGEV. cam is stock and If I recall correctly it should have Duraspark II ignition system. I am a big fan of the carb turbo 2.3L motors. If tuned and tweaked properly they...

Afriend has problems and needs help

A friend bought a 91 LX convertible with 2.3L and Auto trans. He was told engine was shot and tranny was bad. We did oil change and tune iup and engine runs fine but the tranny is fried. I told him to just drop another auto in it and be done with it but he decided to drop a T5 in. Here's...

Nice catch Stinger. Considering what you have done with the silver car it will be interesting to see what you can do with a SVO. Congrats!

Actually I have been following the SN65 project from the thread in corner carvers.com. Amazing work. I do like the car and Im not upset that the fastback is grafted to a SN95 floorpan, I see a Mustang fastback being reborn with modern suspension and engine. I was not upset and actually...

Would you like a more powerful 05 GT? Would you sacrifice the V8 engine for it?

Apparently I'm missing the point of your comment. Isnt a Porche 911 a small, lightweight fuel injected highly tuned car? Would'nt the Porche 930 turbo or the other 911 turbo (911 Weissach?) fall into the same category? I personally feel the V8 is a better choice for a production car...

    Another piston Q

Ideally you want to lower the compression ratio to improve volumetric cylinder filling. I think you can get forged dish turbo pistons from Race Walsh but I dont have a current catalog.

    Another piston Q

Flat top forged pistons were stock on the 79-81 carb turbo 2.3L's. You would need to check the compression height. Dished pistons would be better but you could drop the compression a bit by opeing up the compression chamber and unshrouding the valves.

    Should I keep my Stang?

For as much money as you ahve saved up, I can find V8 LX cars for not much more. If your determined to get rid of your Stang then sell it, add to the money you ahve a find a nice running V8 Stang. That would be a better choice than a V6 F-body.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me lose sleep at night and wish the car on someone who would treasure it and take care of it. I dont understand the mentality of taking a collectors item like a 65 Mustang fastback and destroying it by doing a engine swap like that. At least with the...

    straight six swap

Not that it matters because his 66 170 motor wont have one, but in 81-82 Ford released a E1BB 200 I6 with 4/6 of a 302 bellhousing. You can bolt up a 302 bellhousing but you have to drill 2 more bolt holes to be able to bolt up all 6 bolt holes. Then IIRC you can use a 300 I6 flywheel, a 302...
