Collars in coolant pass. between heads and block?

Those alignment dowels, as stated, may well be still in the head, so check that out. But although they're not critical, they are important. In the event your alignment is off on rebuild, or the head begins to lift (generally due to overpressurization of the cylinder, failed head gasket, or...

cannot find 5th gear snap ring for the life of me!

The way that whole 5th gear / reverse shaft goes together there near the end is slightly different from model to model. My 87 was quite different from my 93. The 87 had no provision for a stopper, but the 93 required it, and oh yeah, it went on in a particular direction (found that out the...

    Steering Shaft vs. Header Clearance

I did this and it completely fixed my clearance issues, with tons of room to spare. It's quick & easy. Just loosen the bolts and then move the shaft wherever you need to.

how to get a SUPER exhaust seal at the head???

BBK shorties with copper here - No leaks for over a year. The hard part's over - cleaning those surfaces while in the car can be a bit... taxing.

damn no progress out of ideas

If you still have the ignition system and coil that were working prior to putting the MSD system in, it's probably a good idea to put them back in and see if the problem is still there. If so, it's likely your TFI. Conversely, if the problem is gone, it's probably one of those aftermarket...

so my 5th gear croaked this morn. what was it???

A few years ago, my wife was driving our 93 convertible in 5th, stepped on the gas, and it just started banging, then revved. The gear had actually broken nearly all of the teeth off. It wasn't too bad working through replacing the gear, just make sure you take pictures of how the shafts look...

    17x9s w/275s

I run the AFS 17x9 Cobra wheels on my 85 w/ 92 spindles and an 8.8 (which should put me nearly identical to your setup, if you're talking about the 84 and have upgraded to 87+ suspension). I also have Eibach springs (about 1.5 lower, all around). I have one set of wheels for my racing tires...

wtf is going on with my 86

It's probably just your dash voltage regulator. They are notoriously weak on 79-86 model cars. Swap out that $20 part and you're probably all set. Good luck.

    Is THis A Good Carb?

I'm running a very similar build w/ 3.73 gears in my 85. I have a custom-jetted 650 Speed Demon with the 50cc secondary squirters. I ordered the "Crate Demon 650 for 5.0 Ford Crate Engines" and then had it modded (by Barry Grant for free) with 50cc squirters, delivered for $479.00. It is...

    Quick Question!!!!

Remember that the piston rises to the top of the cylinder twice per cycle. Make sure that you've aligned your TDC mark on your crank timing index with the top of your compression stroke of the #1. If you don't you'll be on the exhaust side and your timing will be AFU (180 out). If you're...

new transmission. wont go in gear!

I knew this guy once... that thought his input shaft was aligned properly, bolted his tranny to his bellhousing, started his car and then things actually DID line up and he had the same problem until he got under there and tightened his bellhousing to his tranny, and adjusted his clutch cable...

    new motor help

Ford primes and runs those engines before they're ever delivered. They are compression and leak checked as new. They even have very minimal break-in requirements due to the fact that they are brand new engines built with brand new components in the Ford factory, just like all of their other...

04 SVT and no Ford dealer wants to deal with it...help plz?

My "clunk or pop from rear end" turned out to be my sway bar end link on the passenger side. It was either not correctly tightened at the factory or had worked its way loose on the top. I used a stethescope to track it down, tightened up the end link nuts and all's been well since - 2 years...

    gaskets

Actually, I find that changing the oil pan gasket isn't so bad at all. The timing cover gasket is typically more difficult than either of the others you're considering. Remember, for the oil pan gasket, you can simply place the new gasket on top of the oil pan and cinch it back up. You...

    Bad O2's = Detonation?

Good advice above. It probably is simply the new location of the O2 sensors in the exhaust gas stream (further downstream) causing the problem, but if not, and the sensors check good, start looking at the air entering the engine. One other consideration is that if you have the room and skill...

    Fender Replacement

You can do it with the wheel on, but it's much easier with it off. You can then access the screws holding the inner fenderwell splash shields much more easily, and you're not as cramped when reaching up inside of the front of the fender where it attaches to the bumper cover to remove the nuts...

    Fender Replacement

It's a pretty straight forward proposition. The biggest "gotchas" are: 1) The little screws that attach the plastic inside fender wells 2) The hidden screws up in the polyurethane attachment points for the front bumper (sometimes rather corroded, and quite well hidden) 3) The vacuum lines and...

    Squeak/chirp from rear end

Here's what fixed it on mine- I tightened the rear sway bar end link bolts. That's it. The one on the passenger side was loose, squeaking and sometimes even popping. It sounded like hell, but was an easy fix once I got out the pneumatic wrench. Good luck. BT

summit adjustable clutch cable gonna work as good as frpp?

Send back the summit cable and get the Ford cable. Then buy a decent quality firewall adjuster. The extra money is WELL SPENT. I've never seen a Ford cable last less than 100K miles and I've never seen an aftermarket cable last more than 20K miles. Maybe just me, but That's been the case for...

    Tokico or Eibach Spring/Shock combo???

The Eibach / Bilstein combo on my 1985 car is absolutely perfect. It handles like a champ, looks great, doesn't bottom, and makes DC pot holes feel and sound like a $80K+ car. What a difference!
