    I set the timing for 10 degree advance. A 74 302 should be timed at 6-8 degrees BTDC, not ATDC, if it's basicly a stock mill.

    The short could be anywhere in your wiring system. I would say it's worth a try to check the ignition switch rod and the switch itself to see if there's any damage.

    They're not too rare. I know where there's about five clusters with the 120 speedo but the owner won't sell just the speedo. They show up on ebay now and then. You can probably get a whole cluster for $30. to $50.

    The starter relay is the solenoid. Tighten it up on the fender well for a good ground. I can't say for sure if it's your starter but you could disconnect the cable at the solenoid and see if you still have the mean spark problem.

    I never heard of the coolant color being white. That's news to me. My coolant is always green. I use one gallon of anti freeze and top the system off with water. Some people swear by a 50-50 mix. I have never had a problem with the mix I use.
