    electrical question

I was wondering if the alternator cycling on and off would change the idle of the engine? Does anyone know what is the frequency that the alternator normally cycles on and off. Is it a second or less or a few seconds or more. I realize that this is probably trivial information but it helps me to...

    electrical question

found the VR :nice: WTF sure enough I do have a voltage regulator. it was in the left front engine compartment attached to the back of the bracet that holds the radiator hidden by the radiator overflow container. I always figured that I should have one but never saw it before since it...

    electrical question

I know for sure that I have seen the alt needle move without the compressor plugged in. Later I'll have to check the dome light without the compressor. I don't think I have a voltage regulator unless it is the same thing that I've seen refered to as the selonoid or starter motor relay.

    electrical question

My stereo is not hooked up right now so that would not be the issue. I have a meter that I could probably use to check the alt, if I remember right I checked it . But it's easy enough to get it checked at Kragen or someplace like that. Napa is the closest but I think they can only bench test it.

    electrical question

I'll describe the situation. I was putting some air in my tires with a compressor that plugs into the cig lighter while the car was idling. I noticed that the idle speed seems to fluctuate slightly, like it was changing the idle rate faster and slower slightly in a somewhat rythmic cycle or the...

    In-car oil pan swap

I would agree with the others as long as the crossmember bolts aren't stuck. Mine weren't. I have not heard of a one piece gasket. Mine was actually 4 pieces two corks anlong the lenght and 2 ruberish crecent shapes at the front and rear. I think my gaskets were cheap I had some trouble with...

    engine stalling

I pulled the tank right before I got it running again in May. There was not a lot of evidence of corrosion. I pulled the sending unit and it did not look to bad. I kind of swished the tank with some gas and poured it out the only thing that came out was a piece of metal round in shape about the...

I have a clear housing on the fuel filter and the filter looks OK. Actually after I got more gas a day or two ago the problem has stopped for now. I'll have to see what happens.

    engine stalling

Here is the senario, Just recently my engine cuts out intermittently, first started Sun eve driving about 120 miles on freeway. About 3-4 times during the course of the drive the engine would just stop. I would pull over and start it up again. Drive a while longer and happened again. Here...

    start up problems still!?!

You may have already tried these but here goes. Test the voltage and see if the battery is holding the charge. Just because you have a new starter and alt don't assume that they are not the problem espec if they are rebuilt/reman, never hurts to bench test them. I had a so called reman starter...

    dashboard electrical question

As I mentined before I'm still new to figuring out auto electonics. For some reason I was only testing the headlight switch disconnedted. I did not realize till yesterday that to test the headlight switch with it connected all I had to do was use the leads from the meter on the wires comming out...

    dashboard electrical question

no power to fuse ? Well here is the latest in my testing.:bang: Since the new fuse blew when I put it in I have not put in another fuse yet. So with no fuse in for the dash lights I tested and found power to the radio and power to the wiring in the console I think it only goes to the light...

shop says my ignition is the cause to my overheating problems?

mustang shoppe? I don't want to get into names but if it's the mustang shoppe on Poplar I assume you are talking about someone with the first initial T. I've always had good experiences with him. Back when we still had to get smogged he told me what to do to get it to pass when I had the...

    dashboard electrical question

nice job on the headlight switch diagram :nice: I tested the switch removed from the plug because I did not see a way to access the tabs without removing it. Not sure what you mean by the gage panel, there is a metal cover over the back of the switch but it is riveted on, doesn't look like...

    Ignition switch wiring question

KStang65B I think you are right about the 65-66 plug vs the 67. In this article http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/173_0310_mustang_ign_switches/index.html it does say that the plug is the same type but I wasn't sure if they ment similar or exactly the same. Seems like I remember checking a...

    Ignition switch wiring question

Thanks for the response but I'm pretty sure 66 switches are different, http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/173_0310_mustang_ign_switches/index2.html from your description it sounds like the tabs on your switch are labled, on my 67 they are not.
