What can be told with a 0-60mph time? would it be possable to tell a 1/4 mile time (in the ballpark area)??? i know it would all matter on the r/t, 60foot, ext but im just looking at a general idea.

0-60 in approx 8 seconds.
I'd say the quarter mile would take around 17 seconds.

Why are these cars so slow? I mean my Eclipse(2.0 turbo) gets to 60 in 6.0 on a slow day...and its FWD. Is it the weight factor?

Weight. Power to weight ratio. Traction. A whole host of reasons. FWD gets better traction, benefits from 25 year newer technology and has a huffer.

Big difference.

What have you done to the Eclipse? '91 stock turbo Eclipses runs about mid 7's. A stock '64 289 w 4sp will run mid 7's. That's 30 year old technology at work...

So - either the Mustang is slow, or your Eclipse is.

I have the boost turned up to 16psi(11 stock) and a K&N filter. I wouldnt say it gets better than 6.0, but its usually always around there.

Here is an article about the 289 "271" horse engine from 1965. It has 3.89 gears and 10.5 compression and ran 15.9 @ 85 mph. 0-60 was 8.3 seconds.
Not too impressive by today's standards. The 200 HP and 225 HP Mustangs were 17 second cars from what I remember.

You have to remember they were running skinny bias ply tires back then.

If the "actual" HP of these engines was anywhere near the publicized rating, then their trap speeds would still be high even on skinny bias ply tires.

The 15.9 @ 85mph car in the article above with the 271 HP engine had a 4 speed toploader. The 200HP 4 speed was a 17.0 second car. The auto was a bit slower. The 306HP Shelby got into the 14's.

Here are some good spec sheets with 1/4 times of each model.
