03/04 Cobra blower pully questions

I am a little confused on the pully set ups, blower/ideler/etc. and I have a few questions.

Is the 2.8 pulley to much boost for a daily driver...will I run into issues? Also, with the added boost is a boost a pump or larger injectors necessary?

I would like for someone to tell me what pully set up is the best to get, do I need an idler pulley? Alternator pulley? Perhaps a link to a complete set that is proven would be helpful.

Well, I appologize for my stupidity but thanks for any and all help.

I would go with what I have, it is reliable, and has the biggest bang for the buck. See my signature below, anything more than that will arguably be over spinning the blower.

im running a 2.76 WITH NO PROBLEMS i think the boost difference is .25LBs of boost over the 2.80 and the power gain is a whooping 5-7HP.

I think most would argue that over 2.8 the blower looses efficiency and over spins into the realm of questionable long-term reliability.

I think as long as your not always in max boost at max rpm, overspinning with the 2.8 wouldn't be an issue. I was running a 2.8 but settled with the 2.93 though I have a Stieg ported Eaton. The 2.8 definitely had the edge on low/mid range torque and was up a tad in hp. Might go back with the 2.8.

Absolutely. I would go with the tune. Generic chips are no way to treat your motor if you are looking for reliability and longevity. Each motor is different and a good tune can mean more (or sometimes less) power but will give you peace of mind in the air fuel department.

IMO, anything less than a 3.2", you need a tune. Even with a 3.2 and no tune, you're not maximizing your performance. I also recommend a custom dyno tune over any mail order tune. It's hit and miss with the mail order.

I am running a 3.1 with predator right now, but plan on going to 2.8, blower port and custom tune here fairly soon. I would definitely go with a custom tune with a 2.8 pulley.

I tried two different over the mail chips, nothing but problems. Don’t waist your time and money; go straight for a custom tune on a dyno.

They have you on the right track, 2.80 pulley, custom or mail order tune will work with known limited mods ie.) pully plus CAI & cat back, but if you want to not lose that new horsepower you are making, think about gaining HP by cutting your losses. Add an extra idler pulley, it is simple to install, you will need to get a new belt anyway, just get it all at once and the proper length belt made for having an extra idler and now your belt will wrap almost completely around the smaller top pulley and not slip at WOT. You can even gain by replacing the OEM pulleys with smoother billet pulleys

There are so many different blower combo's to go with that it's really something you need to think about before jumping right in. Looking at everyone's sig's shows there are nice gains to be made by just the pulley swap, but remember, once you do that there is a sequence of things you will also need to do to handle the new power you are now making. HE's, cooling mods, beefing up the IRS, idlers, tune, etc, etc. One mod leads to another, and so on, and so forth. Good luck.
