I'm looking to replace my beloved but disintegrating POS '88 BMW 325i. Need something with a bit more pep and working A/C (Las Vegas, 115F). I've noticed that very-low-mileage '03-'04 Mach 1's are available for reasonable prices. Would this model make a good daily driver? How would maintenance be if I didn't beat on it too hard? Any major issues compared to a plain-vanilla GT of the same vintage? Any tips on detecting beat-on-ness when inspecting one?

You can beat the piss out of 'em without worrying about a thing as long as you keep up on the regular maintenance (oil changes, diff fluid changes, trans fluid changes, plug changes, etc...). I've got a 98 with 140K miles that I've owned for 7 - 8 years and I constantly beat on it... still runs as good as the day I bought it.

One of the really nice things about the Mach 1 is that the maintenance is very easy to do yourself, replacement parts are relatively inexpensive, after market parts are relatively inexpensive, and the car itself is very easy to work on.

go for it. only drawback would be not being able to keep it spotless as a DD.

buy the mach for the garage and a pinto for the DD.

Actually, a Pinto might be considerably more comfortable than my current BMW. It's had a hard, hard 23 years of flogging. Amazing it runs at all.

I love my Mach, its not a DD but I can't see why it wouldn't be fuctional as a DD. Only issue I had that was specific to a Mach was my hood decal peeled twice, I ended up getting it painted on. But I've never heard of any other Mach owners with this issue. Buy it you won't regret it at all

You can't go wrong with the Mach. Probably the best balanced car the SN95 chassis had to offer. The only downside to owning one is having your ass handed to you by '11 GT's. I suppose it could be worse though. You could own an '03-'04 Cobra and have your ass handed to you by '11 GT's.

I would drive a mach1 daily any time. I would just leave it stockish and enjoy with no problems. then later when your done driving it every day then hop it up.

I have an intake and a borla exhaust on my GT, it sounds mean and gets almost 30mpg on the HWY, I would assume you would have around the same MPG with a 4v

My granddad's auto Mach 1 has gotten 24ish on the highway in non-optimal conditions. 25+ shouldn't be a problem, especially with a 5 speed.
