Currently I have 455 rwhp and 483 rwtq with my Cobra.

Horsepower is addictive as we all now and I am starting to itch.

Bottom line, what is the ideal air fuel ratio and what horsepower # can the stock internals handle at the specified ratio????

Thanks in advance.

Thinking about an Apten port and a AFCO heat exchanger. This would be at about a grand ($1200 with tune) and should put me over 500 rwhp. I am reluctant as I just want to be safe so I may just maintain and leave it alone.

Skip the Apten port and go with the much superior Stiegemeier porting. I'd get your stock TB/Plenum/SC ported all at once. Stiegemeier usually runs a special where you can get all of this porting done for under $600.

As for A/F ratio keep at, or under 11.8 throughout the RPM band and your motor will last for a long time barring any extended high speed (150+) runs. Remember, the pistons are the real weak spot in our motors.

People will tell you the stock internals are good for 1000 HP. I'm thinking the crank may be good for that, but the rods are only rated at 700 HP or so and the pistons are good for almost as much as long as engine cooling is increased.

I agree with Meat. The Steggi port is the way to go. I am considering going that route also. I am also thinking of the cooling mod to combat the newfound heat with the port. I also just thinking of not doing anything more and being ok with the power I am now making. Decisions, decisions.

So, you guys think 500 / 550 rwhp is safe with the right air fuel???

Sure, as long as the additional heat issues are addressed.

Lots of 03/04 guys in St Louis here with Steig ports, 2.80 uppers and 4lbs lowers that are pulling 500-525 no problem with a good tune...

RWTD has Wideband Commanders on sale. I'm planning on getting one and a tune from him. I want to make damn sure the AF ratio is right and I don't trust the sniffers the dyno shops use. With the WC you can data log and email the results to your tuner. This way you can monitor the ratio and get the best/safest tune possible.

I should have added that I'll purchase the WC and tune from RWTD if he's done moving and back to a normal turn around.

About 4,309 pesos.

$400 bucks. You'll need a pod of some sort to mount the gauge.

So, do you need a laptop with it or is it a stand alone??

I haven't completely researched the unit yet. The logs will need to be uploaded to a PC. The easiest way to do this is with a laptop. However, there maybe a way to unhook the unit from the harnesses and hook it up to your PC.

Something to consider. You won't need to data log and upload that data very often. Just when your tune is needing a tweak and the tuner needs the data. Most of the time it's just hooked up to the gauge where you can see the readings.

I just had this conversation last night with a friend who has this unit.

Dan, I am sure you have been asked this question before, why so low #'s? I know you are running only 13# of boost, but with the efficiency of the KB I would think your #'s would be higher than that, the trq #'s seem really low. Have you thought about upping the boost at all. Just curious. That's a nice amount of scratch to be laid out to be getting those #'s. Like you said, the port looks real good right about now. I am considering a Whipple at this time but the port looks like a decent alternative.

not without upgrading both your fuel delivery and your MAF, that might just be a KB BAP and a MAF extender, or in some cases you might need different injectors and upgraded fuel lines and rails. I met I guy from svtsnake (Long Island) at our track a couple of weeks back and all he had was a 2.93 upper and a 4lb lower, with an unported eaton and all the other normal stuff (CAI, catback) maybe getting 15-16lbs boost (470-490) and he said if he revs over 5400 rpm he pegs his MAF, so he was going to take it easy and not try and rev it that high, at the track? He is already at a point where the MAF can't meter all the air it wants to suck in, I'm sure his fuel pump duty cycle is also maxed out, the point is you are talking about a level of power that will require a lot of work, to make it safe, you won't be able to just bolt it on and go. Maybe you already did all that stuff, I can't tell from your sig, but I am in the same boat, yeah I would like to port my eaton, but not until I do about 2K worth of fuel plumbing upgrades and a new SCT MAF so it can be tuned properly.
