Two quick Questions.

1. Did they make 03 Cobras in two different shades of dark grey?

2. Which of the 03 Cobras have the head cooling problems? I heard it was the early 03's but when exactly during the year did they correct it? Is it true that the corrected heads have a blue dot on the them? Where would I look for this dot? Is this a serious problem? I also heard sometimes the early 03's have valves that begin to "tick". Someone please help me, If I'm going to drop $25K into an 03-04 Cobra I want to make sure I get a strong motor I can modify without problems.

Thanks

1. Yes. They offered both a DSG (Dark Shadow Grey) and Mineral Grey 2003 Cobra. The Mineral Grey was discontinued about mid year.

2. You speak of the "Tick" & head cooling issues. They are one and same. According to the Ford issued SSM (#17858) this problem only affected '03 Cobra's built before 11/01/2002, but there have been PLENTY of Cobra owners who have 03 or 04 Cobra's which developed the tick and were repaired under warranty by Ford.

I've had the drivers side head replaced on my '03 twice now. The tick does not affect performance and it is/was covered under warranty as previously stated.

to add to UM post, the 2nd try at corrected head was released in Feb 05. So no 03/04 Cobra got them from the factory. These heads seem to have solved the problems

I wouldn't, not if you're not maxing out the current one. Are you currently running a stock MAF & injectors?

Like Meat said, what are your current mods? Boosted? If so, it can't hurt to step up to a bigger one. Stay away from the C&L garbage though. The SCT BA2400 is a GREAT unit. I highly recommend it. Thats what I am running. It's probably the easiest MAF to tune for on the market. It's well worth the $200-$250 investment if you plan on modding more in the future.

if you are going the blower route, then def. go with a new maf and injectors. See my above post. ^
