03 Cobra.. mysterious ground

there is a ground wire going from the passenger fender to the bottom of the hood, every Cobra I have looked at has this.... except mine???? what does this wire do??? do I need it???

Some say it's for draining the static energy from the composite hood that is generated in dry air conditions... well, that is what they say.

It creates and electro-magnetic shield that prevents radio interfearence from the engine from being picked up on the AM band. If you don't listen to AM, don't worry about it.
