04 GT Steering Wheel Vibration

My GT has a bit of a vibration in the steering wheel. I took it in a few weeks ago and they said the front brake rotors were warped and needed to be ground and new pads put on. This made sense as the car would vibrate a bit when stopping hard at high speeds (but sucked cause the brake pads still had a lot of life on them). Anyways, when I drive down the highway, around 50-75 mph (anything above or below those speeds and this is not a problem), the steering wheel has a bit of a shimmy to it. Nothing major, but definitely noticeable! Has anyone had this problem and know what it is? My thoughts are that it may have something to do with the steering linkage. The car has 45K miles on it....Oh yea, the alignment on the car is good too....

Could be any one of dozens of things...

Have you had the recommended rotor and pad work done?

I've had the same vibration on my 01 GT vert. But it starts around 40mph and ends at about 50mph. I dropped the car a while ago about 1" and replaced the shocks and springs and added c/c plates and still had the wobble. I also replaced front pads and turned the rotors with no change. The only thing that I've been able to do that made any difference was to get the wheels balanced with a Road Force machine.

I get some of this vibration too. Had new pads and rotors turned this spring. Still get some vibration at lower highway speeds. Also have some weird scraping noises sometimes during low speed turns, but not consistently enough to recreate the problem when I take it to the shop. Now I just turn up the radio.

Yea, I did the recommended brake stuff...have had the wheels balanced again, but never with the road force balancer...hard to find someone with one of those...but they may be the thing I need to do....

I had the same vibration at the same MPH range.

I had curbed a wheel just a tad bit befor ethat happened, but i guess it was enough to throw it off slightly. I took the wheel off, had it rebalanced and put it back on the the vibration was gone

i would say maybe your wheels need to be balanced....

if balancing doesn't take careof it could be the tires.

Did you torque your wheels? And make sure that your wheel studs arein good shape. My old couger suddenly developped shake. turned out that i had hair line clack on one of my wheel studs.
Also Check your wheel bearing. Check your steering rack buching. rotate tires. Check your nut that attach steering shaft to rack. make sure there are no slack in linkage. Make sure that shaft is not touching anything. Check your shocks/strut. Check your bearing on top of strut
Also check your tire itself too. U said tire have 45k miles on it. If there is(are) small flatspot or any inperfection, no amount of balancing is gonna fix shimmy steering
