Hi, guys I am new to the site and don't want to be killed but I am looking at getting a new car and was just interested on some of your opinions. The 2 I am stuck between is the new stang coming out in 6 months and the new Pontiac Gto. I have been set on the mustang for about 4 months or so but I have been looking at a lot of posts lately with people complaining about the 4.6L engines and granted the new engines aren't out yet but I was just wondering on a little thought of how the new 4.6L might compare against the 5.7L in the new pontiac. Once again I'm new 2 the whole car game and am just looking for some serious non salesman garbage! Thanks in advance guys!

Well the new 4.6 3 valve is going to have more power than previous 4.6 engines (Not including Cobras). Most people's complaints with the 4.6 is not enough power, the non-forged internals, or it's too complicated. The new heads take care of most of the power issues. It's not going to have forged internals so if your planning lots of boost. Then you'd have to build the motor. And as far as the too complicated matter. It all depends on how much you want learn. I haven't found mine intimidating yet. I am more lost working on my 66 than my cobra. As for the cars. It all depends on what you want it to do. If you usually go out with a more than 2 friends. The mustang is not exactly a good choice. I usually have 2 friends with me. So one person in the back is not that bad. The GTO while being a decent performer. Is generally considered a little bland in the styling dept. The mustang is a retro style and isn't likely to get confused with any other car.

Another quick question.....as I was reading more articles on the web, does anyone know about how many mustangs are cranked out by ford a year? I know there your base stangs, gt's, mach 1's (the past 2 years) and then your cobras but any idea of a total amount on those cars. I saw the only about 18,000 Gto's are produced a year and was wondering if the stang was close to that number? My biggest fear is that where I live the Mustang is a "u2" car and I want something a little better a little different and I think the new stang or gto will give me that but I'm trying to find some angel to lead me one way or the other

GTO has more power and would be a bit faster stock. It looks like a cavalier had sex with a gran prix and is much more expensive. GTO has a really nice interior in person.

2005 stang looks better and you could buy a supercharger for the money you save. Stang interior looks nice in pictures.

Then don't buy a Goat. My friend has one and its a great car, but it has nothing distinct about it. The interior is virtually top notch, the standard power team is a no brainer, but the look and price is the downer. I'm in somewhat of a similar situation. Would like to buy a current Cobra but you know within a year,even that car will be dated when the 06 comes out. I'm probably wait till 06 and see what the special edition is.

As far as I know the GTO and the new stang gt will be close in price like $33 for a gto and around $30 for the gt....I agree on the bland look as well...but am reading lots of stuff on a new hood and dual exhaust for the 05 gto. I have seen pictures of a silver stang gt with pinstripes going down the hood and body is that gonna be standard on the new car or was that just for the autoshow....?

I don't know where you get $30k for a GT? $26k is what I hear. And the GT doesn't get hit with $1000 gas guzzler tax like the GTO . (yah yah, so did the '03 Cobra, I know...)

Wait, the gto doesnt have a dual exhaust?

About the stripes, Im pretty sure that was only for the auto show.

If you're looking at a GTO wait a bit because it's rumored to be upgraded to 400hp. I'm gonna be waiting for a Mach or Boss and hope it gets around 350hp.

I don't know much about the GTO, however...to me it LOOKS like a really beefed up cavalier . That's only in looks though. It might be a beast in performance for all I know. I don't pay attention to GM cars much.

The '04 GTO has dual exhaust, they just both come out the same side. see here : http://newagegto.com/X04AR_PN002.jpg

The '05 GTO is getting a few changes like quad exhaust, Ram Air hood, and a 400HP 6.0L LS2 V8

I guess you don't have an eye for cars.
GTO = http://199.239.248.45//images/full/2003/s2003010901/pn2004gto6002.jpg
Calalier = http://www.ipublishers.com/autos/cavalier.jpg

I think the GTO looks more like the new 6 series BMW : http://www.popularmechanics.com/aut...w_concept_preview/images/tb_lg_7031_image.jpg

Both the GTO and New Stang are good choices, you can't got wrong with RWD V8's

sorry about the mess up on the dual exhaust, it's got it they both just come out right next to each other the brochure I saw from ford said msrp base of like 29,000 and change for the new 05 GT, which I could see as it's got the same power as this years mach 1 and that is msrp at 29,000 or so. Definite bummer if those stripes are show only as that really made the stang look sharp! Also........beefed up cavalier? Cmon now....someone also said it looks like a bonnie or gran prix.....not even freaking close to a bonneville but the grand prix I can definitely see especially in the front end...however I like the design of the gran prix so that's not a problem for me, and with 350 horses that's a pretty fast prix! The gto will do 0-60 faster than the new stang but not as fast in the 1/4 mile......what's with that? Is it due to the weight of the car, it weighs in at 3700lbs and offhand I don't know the weight of the stang or remember exactly what it's supposed to hit the 1/4 mile in. I'm starting to think this is a riddle that can't be solved Anywho thanks for the input so far.....

Ugh, this thread is giving me a f u c k ING headache.

GTO : overpriced 37k piece of ugly bland crap with 350 hp that can barely outperform a 28k mach 1 with 300hp... it's a joke.. nuff said

Mustang... awesome styling, true to its legacy, many go fast parts... 300 hp stock on a GT and only raping your wallet for 25k... do the damn math...

There is NO comparison.. don't even try... GM died a long long time ago... deal with it...

The GTO is definately pontiac. got the rectangle type headlights of the bonneville. And then look at the G6. Wow how many cars can you make off the same body. The mustang is estimated around 3425lbs

While the gto is bland, it really is a blast to drive. I drove one for a while, and even if the mach 1 can outperform it, the gto has Independant Rear Suspension. So they have different takes to motoring. Where the 05gt/mach are def gt cars, they are more oriented to the strip than the open track. But thats not to say they cant handle, properly setup a stang can shine. The gto on the other hand is a true grand tourer in the sense of it big engine, irs suspension setup, etc... . But who knows what the new gt will handle like or what times it will pull in. In all likely hood the new gt will have way more top end than the current sohc just because of the extra valves and the vvt. But ls1 are pretty sick engines as well, but usually more expensive to modify.

camaan z28... even the chevy faithful for the most part don't like the styling. admit it... its not the most graceful looking thing in the world and has more than enough brand-likeness to its stablemates (ie grand prix, grand am, etc.)

Everyone brings up the fact that it looks typical pontiac, but wasnt it actually made by HOLDEN for the Australian market. From what I have read GM intentionally used this car. Mainly because with the American mods that had to be done to legalize it, they could slightly redo the edges to make it look pontiac, when in actuality it was never intended for our market. Gm basically needed an f-body replacement, and this was as close as they could come, but price wise still to much. Especially for a car they didnt have to really do anything on except the bumpers and gas tank and emmisions.

I'll take the Stang over the GTO, but the GTO puts out really good power. seen dyno numbers like 330 hp and 390 tq stock. if you really want to buy a GTO then go over to ls1gto.com and ask around.
