I went to the local track this weekend and the best i could do was
15.3 with 2.4 60 foot my previous best is 15.22 with a 2.3 60 foot.

since last time at the track i droped the air pump and put a shirt belt on, bolted on flowmaster cat back system, new plug wires. still have stock 2.73 gears(will be changing to 3.55 or 3.73's soon).

Why the slower times with mods? my 60 foots are worse aswell.
I have traction problems aswell tried launching differnt rpm's, cant find the sweet spot. How can i get better traction without slaping on slicks?I have 255/45-17's on rear 245/45/17's on front, I would like to be in the 14's before i do the gears.

Well if you get those 60' times down a bit you will be alright. You have to remember your running at 3500' above sea level. If you but that ET into a calculator with thta elevation it comes out to be 14.52. You lower those 60' times you will be alright, im sure a lot of car run a lot slower than they should where you live.

Work on the launch. Just get that down to a 2.0 and you will be in the 14s. but practice practice practice.

Some days are better than others. Track conditions, temprature, humidity, high/low air pressure (brometric?) can all have alot to do with your performance. The smog pump probally only took 1/10th hp to run, and when you meant short belt, what else was bypassed. I used to run a shortbelt bypassing the smog and P/S and dropped .2 down the 1/8th.

You can. You have to do some modifications to the Tensioner so it pulls up insted of pushing down so you can use it as a idler pulley. I did it once but it barly touches the waterpump so you get alot of belt squeel (or atleast I did).
