ok I have a close to stock motor in my 87. The valve cover gaskets are shot. i figure since its a lot of work to change em out, why not put some RRs in? My question is, do I go with 1.6s or 1.7s? I do plan on changing the cam, just on down the road. What are the pros and cons to each?? Also, will either change the sound of the exhaust? Thanks!!

id go with the 1.6's it will leave you more options for other cams in the future, if you are going to do that. if not and your staying with the stock cam id go with 1.7's

The stock cam is a good cam by all that I have read. I'm looking at a car craft article right now where they built a 400fwhp 302 with afr heads w/ 1.7 rockers and a stock cam.

stock cam is good, but I'm not sure about that, who knows though. I went with 1.7's on my car with gt40p heads and a stock ho cam. If I would have read more though, I would have gone with some 1.6's, as I plan on upgrading the cam in the future and when I do, I'll have to ditch the 1.7s for 1.6's

Putting on 1.7's now and getting a little performance bump and changing out your stock cam later is no big deal. You just can get by with a new cam that has a little less lift compared to if you kept your 1.6's in.I got a cam with .510 lift instead of .544 (with 1.6's).
