12v plugs not working

i get back from college and start helping my friend detail his 96 gt, he says his smiggy lighter deal doesn't work, can yall help us out on which fuse it is or what the problem might be is

It's probably the wires leading to the lighter. Mine is loose and it only works if I jostle it a little. Bad connection at the lighter. I just haven't felt like taking apart the console to check it out. If it were a fuse there would be other things out too.

but they're 2 one in in console and one on the shifter boot and both are inoperable

Ahhh...check fuse box under the hood. There is a 60a ABS fuse then a convertable top fuse space (should be empty on the coupe) and the next one is for the cig lighter, power point and lumbar seats( if equipt). It is a 20 amp fuse.

we changed it still no sucesses

Sometimes the cigarette lighter itself goes bad. Try one from a different car. Do not use one from a Honda, you will piss your Mustang off...

nope he's actually trying to hook up his ipod (gheyy), with one of them radio deals

Maybe the wires got melted off the back of the cigarette lighter receptacle from excessive heat off the lighter? If it is not the fuse there must be a frayed or broken wire somewhere...
