Hey Guyz,

I've had my white 5 spd 96 GT for almost 2 months now. The other day I was absolutley embarrassed by a slightly modded z06 vette. I knew what i was getting into when we ran, and i knew i was gonna get stomped but it made me realize just how slow my stick gt really is. I was wondering if anybody in here has a 96-98 GT and what I have to do to get into the 13's. Thats my goal, 13's. I'm currently thinking:

PI Heads and Intake
70-75mm TB
80 mm C&L MAF
Cold Air Kit
O/R H-Pipe
MAC catback

I'm just not sure if thats good enuff for 13's.

suspension, suspension, suspension. 10000 rwhp wont get you 13's if you spin your tires all day. 200 rwhp will get you well into the 13's with the right suspension setup. I'd get the PI heads/intake, exhaust of your choice, and skip the rest for suspension work.

give the car a diet, the PI heads/intake combo sounds right. And yes SUSPENSION, as whitedevil69 said 1000rwhp will get you nowhere without a good suspension setup. And seriously what were you thinking racing a Z06, those things are friggin fast. But a race is a race, so don't be embarresed.

PI headswap, 4.10 gears, DR's, you should hit 13's with that combo. Only time u need massive suspension work is if you are making 1000rwhp. Suspension helps but u dont need anything to drastic yet maybe some Subframe Connects and springs.

the stock suspension is more than adequate for 13's on street tires.

What is your budget??

It is power to weight ratio. Regular Vette and SS camaro all weigh about the same as our Stangs. Thay have 350hp and 330hp. They both go deep into the 13's. 10hp for every 100lbs of car will do it. I'd go blower. Save up 2500.00 - 3000.00 or used maybe 1500.00. It will take almost that for our N/A 96-98's in bolt ons anyway.
N/A- Used heads 500.00 (P&P'd) 500.00 I think it is stupid that people do not have this done or gasket match them themselves while they are off the car.
Headers, Manifold, Pulleys, Chip, Gears
Plenum. Total off all the above= 2700.00 that is if you DIY install everything.
You would most likely run in the low 13's either way.

A PI swapped 5 speed should be in the 13's pretty easily. Only minor suspension stuff should be necessary like subframe connectors, shocks and springs. I'm pretty confident my auto is in the high 13's judging by the cars I've beat. Nitrous will get you there no problem. Oh yeah get some 4:10's.

Do a PI swap, build the rear end (with 4.10's or 4.30's) and some slicks. That should get you nicely into the 13's, if not 12's.

I am pretty sure Z06's are 12 second cars out of the box, and they grip like glue so if that is your goal, your gonna need more than a 13 second car. Suspension is important and you can see from my sig that I am ready to start working on this part of my car. Two points here IMO: 1, get a blower and save yourself alot of hassle, effort, and wrenching. 2, Learn your limitations meaning race against your strengths and avoid racing against your weaknesses. I have a roots blower, stock 98 heads and auto trans. That means I don't want a SS or TA on my door handle after 80 or 90 mph cause I am about to loose. By that time my heads are wheezing like my grandma in a 3-legged race.

After I install my KB Supercharger, Level II Steeda suspension mods (at least), Nitto tires and a few other mods...I'll be looking for a z06 to goose.
